Where is the block heater?

We have a 1999 Grand Prix GTP.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but do the s/c 3.8's have block heaters?

If so, where is the block heater located and where should I look for the cord?

I know I have seen the cords tied to the bar over the air box (don't remember the name of it) on the n/a 3.8's but I have only seen them on a few of the GTP's.

Some cars have it as a factory option. Mine does.


The heater I think is on the front of the block and if there, one of the frost plugs will have the block heater in it instead of the plug. The frost plugs are near the knock sensor.


You can also buy block heaters and install them yourself or you can get one of those super duper magent block/oil pan heaters. I see many plow trucks with the magnet/stick on style that just stick em to the oil pan to keep the oil/lower block warm.
 
I was just wondering if it was an option on the GTP's. I saw your block heater cord, that's what made me ask the question. Do you know if there is a way to look up the factory options on my wife's GP with the vin# or something?

If I would buy an aftermarket one, it would probably be the lower radiator hose style ones, not the freeze plug style ones. I can see installing the freeze plug style ones going wrong in so many different ways. I would think the magnetic ones would get knocked off or moved since our cars sit so low.
