When will my transmission blow

I know this is a hard question to answer since each car is different. I want to know around what HP mark or what set of mods is most likely going to result in a blown tranny.

I have a 05 Comp G and will be putting a 3.4 on it with rockers and supporting mods, When am i getting into the danger zone and in the need for a new tranny?

When you put on slicks or beat the crap out of it all the time...except about 20-40K out of it IMO.

Homer with glasses is right. Do the maintenance, use GM filters, Dexron VI, a good shift kit, and it may hold up to a good 300hp... as long as you don't beat the poop out of it like a moron! Use the new power wisely, understand how the tranny works, and don't treat it like a slave! :burnrubber0: Some guys mod beyond 300 with stock tranny's without much problem (but some guys don't mod at all and have failure early on).

here are what i do to make my transmission last:

1) no WOT in first gear
2) no double downshifts (3-1, 4-2)
3) no burnouts or hard throttle through corners
3) make sure the fluid is always at the right level

im a horrible maintanance person when it comes to transmissions. i never change my fluid or filter and my GT transmission (non-HD) lasted 135k miles full of fury. they take some beatings, but you have to treat them nicely.

Yah I understand about all the care and maintenance, but under perfect cicumstances I was just wondering how much power they can take. I am eventually going to get a racing tranny but dont want to blow a stock one before I get it. I want to invest in mods first to make her fast.

its a toss up man. i beat the snot out of my trans (stock just fwi) for 75,xxx miles. then i put on SLP headers & 3.5 pulley & she went mabey a couple weeks before craping out.

You really should be fine with the setup you detailed.

I am pushing 300whp, have 160K on the stock trans, and it is still holding strong. I do change the fluid and filter annually though.

pull out the differential and check and see if the large pin holding the planetary gears is getting loose. these rocket out like chryslers and blow holes in tranny cases. if u see ANY movement replace the diff
