When to replace rear pads?

Ok.. I know pictures speak better than words.

I think rear right squeals now, and I have about 2100mi to the regular oil change. Really like to do it at once. Do I have enough?

Thanks!

I'd go ahead and change them now unless you want to buy rotors too. It looks like they're already digging into the rotors and the inside pads tend to wear more than the outside pads.

If you've already hit the squealers you might as well do both.

As a general rule of thumb I consider them worn when the brake material is thinner than the backing plate, but of course there's earlier than I would have to.

I see the grooves too, but I'm not sure if I did it or not because it's the first time replacing rear pads on this car.. so I don't know.

Guess I'll be replacing, like, now;

Thanks guys!

Grooves on the rear is normal if you dn't lube it those rear abutement clips get rusty and they are preventing you from seeing hw thick the pad is you need to take the caliper ff and look. 3/32 is how much should be to replace.

when metal on metal sound appears change them lol. I just remembered in the service department at the local gm when I had my oil change I saw a rotor on the counter (there for some laughs I guess) and I had to take a double take, it was worn sooooooooo much that it had a metal outer ring left and was worn down to oooo half way through the VANES on the one side. How could someone NOT know the breaks are fubar before it is that bad!!!!!??????
