Wheel Popping in and out

2000GrandPrixGTP

New member
I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and have a problem with my front wheels. When I push on the wheel with my foot it move in at least 1/4 of an inch. I replaced the wheel hubs and I'm going to do the cv halfshafts next. But before I buy them i want to make sure that the halfshafts are at fault.

Would a bad cv halfshaft cause the wheel to move in and out or do I have a defective wheel hub? There is a grinding type noise while driving and vibration at higher speeds. No popping while turning. Brakes were just done so that's not the grinding.

Thanks for any input

No I mean when you push on the wheel from the side towards the engine. I know the car will go back and forth if you push it lol. The wheel moves in and out as in side to side

Have some one else push on the wheel and you look and see what is moving. It is probably an inner or outer tie rod.

Could be tie rod ends but with a grinding noise while in motion I would check the hub for bad bearings since that would also cause "play" in the tire. just a thought.

CV shafts won't cause that. They don't hold anything in place.

Check the following.

1. Lower Ball Joint.
2. tie rod ends
3. bolts between the spindle and strut.
4. point where strut mounts to the body.

My guess is the bolts at the spindle and strut are loose.
