Wheel hub?

I purchased my 97 GT in September, about 2 months after I got it, the front right of the car started vibrating really bad. I took it to my mechanic, and they said that the tire was bad and to get another one. I purchased another tire, and it went away...for a week.

Its been vibrating every since, and making a "roar" when driving straight, but when i cut the wheel it stops. I've talked to a few people who all say that it sounds like the wheel bearing/hub. Does this sound accurate?

Yup, sounds like they were spot on. I suggest contacting Ed Morad for a replacement. His will last just as long, if not longer (I think) than any one from a parts store.

Wow! My car don't make any noise, but before I went to Branson last year, I had my car checked out. He said I need a wheel/hub assembly. I never got it. I kinda forgot about it. I drove 80 and 90 to Branson. Then, took down the track 15 times. Drove home. Drive it all winter. I guess when I hear a noise, I'll fix it. ?

The wheel hub can be bad, and you may not hear a noise. Some rumble, some don't. My most recent one that I replaced didn't make a noise, but the ABS light would come on. The one before that made a terrible noise, but no light. They were both extremely worn and loose when I replaced them.

If a mechanic says they are bad, they most likely are, if they are a trustworthy mechanic. Maybe take it somewhere else next time and see if they mention it. If you don't get it replaced, it can wear your tires funny and cause driveability issues.

I have seen bad hubs, also, make a loud popping sound when you move in reverse. Not as common as some of the other symptoms, but thats what the problem was on a wheel bearing I had.

Just curious Scotty, did the bad hub also make a noise as you drove it? Like a similar popping sound? I have a strange noise I can't place. It is a popping noise that I hear very audible when it is cold. Then goes away the longer I drive the car, and if the temp is warmer outside. I just replaced the hub on that side with a used one. So not sure...

Sorry to hikack this thread!

No sir. Only when I was in reverse with the wheels turned, like you would backing into a parking spot.

I had a wheel sensor go bad, so I bought a new one at the parts store. It drove fine, never made a sound, nothing indicating it was bad in anyway. A few days after having it on there, it started making that popping noise, like something in the suspension was unbinding, that loud. I took the bearing back under warranty and it was replaced and Ive had no issues since.

what a scrubbing sound like when the tire makes 1 full revolution, would that be a sign of a bad hub?

Scrubbing? Like scrubbing a pot? I need more info. Does it do this when you are going fast? Slow? Does the noise stop when you turn the wheel? Does it make the noise the entire time the wheel is going around, or just part of the time.

it is just when it does one full rotation, like at the same spot it is more like a ticking noise.
Like tick, one full rotation, tick, one full rotation, tick, etc, etc....
It does it no matter what speed I am going, and it is just a little more noticable when I turn my wheel to the left.

I have checked for any rubbing and/or anything bent and didn't come up with anything and couldn't reproduce the ticking noise with me revolving the wheel with it jacked up in the air.

That actually sounds more like a bad CV/Axle shaft. Ive never heard of an wheel bearing doing that, but I guess stranger things have happened.

It could be a bearing but the cv shaft makes the popping sound when it goes bad while turnning. Take the car and have them checked.

mine make no noise, but have some play when I grab the tire (almost a quarter inch of movement) no lights either
