Wheel hop (sometimes)

I get wheel-hop every once in a while. I've checked all suspension components and see nothing wrong. The front struts are OEM, I've replaced the rears as one was shot. I've also checked the engine mounts, they all look fine (though I haven't flipped them).

The front sway bar and tie-rod ends are also new.

I assume it's wheel hop, but it could be something else I suppose. It feels and sounds like wheel-hop.

Any ideas?

from the hundreds of cars ive seen and the 20 or so ive ridden in and the 5 or so ive driven..NEVER have i experienced wheel hop.

you sure its not the ABS?

Positive. It's also not the TCS.

It's hard to reproduce. The front end shudders and bangs (like on 5 hz frequency) just like wheel hop.

The only time it happens is accelerating relatively aggressively from a stop. The "hard to reproduce" part is the pavement. Some types on concrete or smoother surfaces will result in more of this.

I've wondered about that too. The trans works fine otherwise - no slipping, irregular shifting, and the fluid is pristine (no burn smell or varnish etc).

You know the LCA, specifically the ball joint, is what you should have replaced right?

Its possible is the front LCA bushing but just replace both arms with new BJ's and it should be much better.

Or.... check your BJ by pushing the top and bottom of the wheel when its off the ground. if theres much play its shot.

the front bushing separates. visual check will confirm it.

I was finally able to get the car to "hop" again. It only happens under mdeium acceleration and going up a slight hill (presumably when the weight transfers to the back a little). I let off the throttle a little and it stops.

I will get under the car this weekend and check more suspension components...
