Wheel Bearing Replacement. Question!

Hello, I am new to the forums and this is my first post. I recently purchased my 2001 grand prix GTP from my mother, I have wanted it since she bought it and have put my blood sweat and tears into maintaining it. Okay now on to the real reason behind this post... :th_skull:

There has been a humming noise coming from the driver side front wheel assembly. I replaced the tires (since they needed to be) and thought it would be a shot in the dark to fix it but it didn't. I know the wheel bearing is shot ALSO the ABS light is on. So instead of just replacing the wheel bearing, I thought, why not just replace the whole hub? Way easier in my eyes so that is what I am going to do. BUT my question is, is there a difference between a Grand Prix GTP hub and a regular Grand Prix hub? I don't want to buy the wrong type. Also, is there any real threat of driving on a bad bearing besides the unbearable humming noise?

Thanks in advance!

i dont think you can buy "just" a bearing for these cars. the bearing/hub assembly is all one part. and it is identical between the GT and GTP, so compatibility wont be an issue.

Yeah, have to buy the complete hub, just make sure it has the ABS as some hubs don't. Fairly simple install if you have access to an impact or breakerbar for the axle nut (35mm)

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Just the answers I was looking for. I'll let ya know when the work is done! Also can anyone tell me if there is any real threat of driving on a bad bearing besides the unbearable humming noise?

Not as long as it is short term. If your bearings are completely gone, then yes. You should be OK for a short period of time until you get to it.
