• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

What's Next for me?

So I bought this pre-modded car in August:

2002 GTP Coupe
F-body front rotors, caliper cages
3.4 pulley
ZZP tune
Wizaird CAI
3" DP, U bend delete, flo-thru resonator and hi-flo Cat
104 AL plugs at .050" and MSD wires
I added a front p-log manifold

First question, what should this car be running in the 1/4? Local club had a track day but I couldn't make it due to work.

Next question, what's next? The car feels pretty quick and will break loose if I stab it. How much faster can it get without sacrificing reliability?

I replaced the t-stat with stock 190, but the car never gets above 180 based on dash gauge (if it's accurate). It's very well-behaved as a daily driver, had it in Manhattan traffic last week and it's easy to drive and runs smooth under all conditions.

I still get 1.5 or so KR at WOT, but also have been getting a loud rattle in reverse when the wheels are turned right. After some recent reading here I'm thinking the O2 sensor may be hitting the firewall but need to do some additional checking on that. KR stays at 0* unless I have the throttle absolutely buried to the floor, so not really worried about it in normal driving.

rockers, cam or intercooler. the car will probably run a high 14 in the 1/4. stock is about a 15.5. 1.5* of kr isn't much, and I probably wouldn't worry about it.

What's next? Tints, lower front end... Lolz

City sucks cause you're never really gonna be able to open it up! If it's not broke don't fix it... My logic.

Unless you want more... Then it's headers 1st, cam, GenV, or even turbo as so many would advocate, etc! All in all, the 3800 platform is pretty cheap to mod if you want to add power (comparatively). It all depends on what you want.

With only a 3.4 pulley on my Bonneville and nothing else.. it was pulling 14.5 consistently at the track. GTP should be comparable stock

1.9 roller rockers are typical for these cars. 90# springs pair well with them. Headers would definitely be a good idea too.

1.5* of KR with probably a fuel washed tune.

Get headers and a REAL tune.

Also; get some new mounts. Solid rubber lowers/poly uppers. That'll take care of the movement.

Those three things will really help the car. If you're worried past that, replace the tired valve springs with either L76's or LS6's...and get some modded stock rockers. If you've got the coin and want the motor to look good where no one sees anything, then get Yella Terra rollers.

Those three/four things alone will really tighten the car up, and on top of that, probably net 40~ or so WHP, not to mention TQ, across the board...and help it where it most needs it...which is the top end.

If by "fuel-washed" you mean rich, then I would say that explains the crappy 17 mpg I'm getting. What's a "real" tune and where do I get one?

Look up Tune-Time Performance...if Long Island is the correct location...they've done tons of GP stuff, but I'd find local guys that do in-car tuning. Dyno's aren't necessarily ideal for street cars, honestly.

Depending on your weather when going to the track, you should be mid to low 14's.

I think you have a perfect setup for an intercooler. I like the idea of keeping it quiet, simple, and reliable. Drop to a 3.2 pulley and enjoy the car.

Also, as long as you are still using the stock narrowband o2 sensor, the tune does not have the ability to make it run rich when cruising. If it's really running rich, it's due to a mechanical problems.
