• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Whats going on anymore

My GF and I went searching a while back for Christmas Cards. We went to Wal-mart, Target, Hobby Lobby (wasn't really for the cards, but in the area), and several other stores before we said Screw It!

90% of them all were Happy Holidays, and the Christmas cards weren't very appealing, most were just things like Joy, Peace, and other stuff... There were a fine few that actually said Merry Christmas. We got to Target last and by this point I'm a little irate... its stupid to me and I hate Happy Holidays.. there was a woman (50ish) in the isle with us looking at cards and I was getting mad and I was like why are there none that say Merry Christmas???
She looks and says there are plenty, most just say Happy Holidays but its basically the same thing... I looked at her... like :th_wavefinger: I was like No... they are not... I want one that says Christmas, I ACTUALLY want one that says Merry DAMN Christmas, so that my family will laugh but enjoy what it signifies. I said this. She dropped her jaw and walked out of the isle... then I laughed and my GF back handed me for being a smart ass... I wasn't joking :(

I hate that everyone can push our religion out of our country because that's not how they believe, but they will be damned if I tell them to stop doing what they want to do because of their beliefs. Its not right and we are going to Politically-Correct ourselves out of our own country in a few years at the rate it is going.

Its sad really, and I agree, our Founding Fathers would rolling over right now, so disappointed at how we let it go the way we have. :th_shakinghead2:

I went to look for Christmas cards last fall, too, and found that the only cards that said "Merry Christmas" on them were made in China. The ones that had a "Happy Holiday" message on them were made in the USA. I felt it was best to just leave the store and shop elsewhere.

here's the thing. It's not just about Christmas and religion....It's EVERYTHING.

Don't say Christmas it's offensive to me --STFU GTFO
Don't smoke near me it might take 10 minutes off my life -- STFU GTFO
Don't drive without a seatbelt you might die (duh) -- STFU GTFO
Don't ride a bike (pedal or motor) without a helmet you might die (duh again) -- STFU GTFO
Don't smoke weed you might act stupid (uh yeah!?) -- STFU GTFO
Don't play music in your car too loud it might annoy\offend someone -- STFU GTFO
Don't say use the word gay to describe happiness because people are stupid and don't know that's the original definition -- STFU GTFO
Don't let just the best players play it upsets my kid because he sucks -- STFU GTFO

So basically if you are not OK with the way ANYTHING was done\said prior to 1960 --- STFU GTFO

Ironic that you call it stupid considering your blatant admission to a lack of knowledge on the subject. X comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter in their word that translates to Christ. The Latin word mas.....well, I'm sure you can figure that one out. Therefore, it is an abbreviation of Christ-mas, and it has been in use for at LEAST a couple hundred years now.

No, ma'am. It just means that Christians took the Yule out of Yuletide. :)

It is amazing how sensitive believers can be about their faith, yet at the same time, know so little about the history of the faith they profess to hold so dear. Let me tell you all a little story about the origins of this precious holiday you all seem to think is being "stolen" from you.

See, once upon a time (1st Century AD), it was actually considered a sin to celebrate Christ's birth (or any god, for that matter). In fact, no date of birth was even discussed in any of the gospels. Only vague references to shepherds tending to their flocks, which makes it impossible for Christ to have been born in the winter, much less December. In any event, the date was considered unimportant because Christians at that time believed it was his death for our sins and resurrection that were supposed to be remembered and celebrated, not his birth.

Around the 2nd Century, amidst outrage from many churches, some cultures/nations started to celebrate Christ's birth on January 6th, a date most Orthodox Eastern European churches have stuck to even today. It wasn't till around 350 AD that Pope Julius I decided to officially move the date to December 25th. Why the move? Simple. To try and get more pagans to convert. You see, the pagans still far outnumbered the Christians at this point, so it was believed moving the date to coincide with their many feasts, rituals and celebrations would make converting easier. And so, they decided to celebrate the birth of Christ on the same day as the ancient Babylonians celebrated the feast of the Son of Isis, the Romans celebrated Saturnalia (honoring Saturn, the God of Agriculture), the northern European pagans celebrated the birth of Mithras (sun god, for which yule logs were symbolically burned), etc. These were all forms of what is known as Winter Solstice.

From this move, not only did we get the current date of Christmas, but also EVERY SINGLE TRADITION that Christians today believe to be part of Christmas. From the concept of bringing a tree into the home, to decorating it, to putting up lights, to exchanging gifts, to kissing under mistletoe, to hollyberries, to caroling......every single one of them started as a pagan tradition as a part of one or more of the above mentioned Winter Solstice celebrations.

In other words, Christmas as we know it today was nothing more than a marketing strategy by the church to try to lure in more customers. Kind of ironic since Christians today are in an uproar about how Christmas is being stolen from THEM, and is becoming a commercial holiday, isn't it? Especially considering that engaging in pagan rituals is considered a huge sin, and the church was warning/completely against it prior to the Bible being canonized. :)

Are they Christians?...or hiding behind the label? The Bible warns us against religion too, but nobody says religion is "un-christian-like". To what extent do we allow people to identify themselves with a label so that it's easier to push aside their views or perspective? Nobody is perfect. The truth is that culture is very dynamic and it just so happens that Christmas has been influenced by a change of culture over the many hundreds of years that it's been practiced.

*shrug* Who cares? Those who identify with an idea for the simple purpose of gain is always going to out weigh the pure hearted and well intentioned.

Don't let the abusers redefine the intent.

Merry Christmas.

Customers say it to me, and I return the gesture.

Never heard "Happy Holidays" yet.

Happy Holidays is a joke. Its Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. If you don't like it leave. Its been this way for hundreds of years. We wont let idiots change that. Gotta love timreams post STFU GTFO

I like the 1960 politically correct list. Unfortunately more and more liberties like that are being taken away. Which is stupid. I'm catholic and if someone says Happy Hannakah I don't flip out like a two year old.
