whats causing this coolant leak?

Today i look under my car on the driveway and see i lost a nice batch of coolant. Cant quite pinpoint exactly where its coming from but i see a couple of hanging drips right at the rear of thesubframe on passenger side like to the left and behind the Trans pan. My first thought was lower coolant elbow or heater core lines but idk. Any ideas?

Sounds like coolant elbow to me. Probably want to wipe everything off, then start the car and looking for leakage/seepage.

I have somehwhat of an idea,i believe it may be the lower elbow. I have the car on ramps and went under, cant see the lower elbow but the leak is coming from somewhere next to and a lil above the oil filter area.

car off, you can stick your fingers in where the lower elbow meets the engine. just follow the heater hose tube down the alt bracket, follow it in. if its leaking it will be wet back there.

Well checked all in there with the coolant res. out the way and its neither wp nor lower elbow. This is weird now.

I was having the same issue, WP and both elbows were dry, yet coolant was directly under that spot. I just let it leak until i wasn't allowed to park in the drive anymore..lol. Then took it to work and all of a sudden my upper coolant elbow started leaking and my boss was like, thats it right there. (even though it was bone dry when it was leaking before, so i had 2 coolant leaks then) We replace the elbows and I tell my parents we fixed a leak, there are still puddles on the driveway appearing, I'm assuming my car is still leaking. oh well, I'll look into it when the weather isn't so brutal. It doesn't always leak, just sometimes. Cannot find the source though.

Check the two heater hoes that go into the tensioner. I replaced my sons tensioner for the 3rd time last weekend and he was still dripping coolant. One of the o-rings were seeping. Cheap easy fix. I did it in 20 degree weather while it was snowing in shorts :).

Get the car up to operating temp. It might only leak when your thermostat is open. Get the car warmed up and the thermostat open then check for leaks. From the amount you're talking about it should be easy to find.

Apparently its the wp weephole, mechanic checked it. But.this leak has a mind of its own. Barely anything now in 2 days although i did take stuff apart yesterday.

My water pump leak was random too. Then one day started leaking like a sieve. Do it now. Its not all that hard and not all that expensive.

Can anyone explain this to me, since that leak 2days ago my AC/heat has been on and off not working.?

in what way does it not work? no blower fan?

and sounds like the water pump. they do leak when they feel like it, off and on for some time till they let go all the way.

I flick the heat or AC on high and i hear the condenser click on but nothing blows out at all right away. Takes a few minutes sometimes or a couple tries turning it on or off.

thats the compressor you hear clicking on. and it sounds like your fan is crapping out. unrelated to the coolant leak for sure.
