• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Whats best?

Ok, so my car was making a ticking sound. Sounded like a lifter so i replaced them and all gaskets etc. Knock is still there. Got a mechanics stethoscope and looked around, and its bottom end noise. Car still runs great its just a very light knock, loudest near the oil pan. So im running this car till it wont go anymore, which hopefully is soon. I have access to a NA 3800 block and bottom end, and a tuner. I also have access to a straight up L67 for $500. Would it be best to use the NA bottom end and pull a top swap off the L67? Or just drop the L67 in? Suggestions on cams? Anything you guys think I should know please tell me. I have a good amount of money to work with probably around 4 grand. So anything is a possibility.

how much money do you WANT to spend? do you WANT to go cammed?

the possibilities are pretty endless here unless you tell us what your overall goal is. do you want this car to be super fast or do you want a peppy DD?

depending on how much of the work you do yourself you could almost get a quality turbo setup done the right way for a little bit more money. Like Bio said, it depends on your end goals........you want a track car, just a fast DD, etc?

a fast dd, in my town there are about 20 fox body mustangs that think they are just the baddest things around, id love to clean their clock in a grand prix, but this is my dd. i can do any of the work myself except welding and tuning, my dad owns a garage ive helped him work on cars since i was 8 and im going to an automotive school currently.

then go with a high compression block (l36/l26) with blown top end (l67/l32) and throw a cam in it that works good on stock heads (XP, S1x, NIC).

How much horse would you guess that would make? what size pully on the sc? what about spray? HD tranny?

Spray is for the weak...unless your spraying Methanol ;)

For a XP'ed, L36 build with no IC, or Meth...headers, and a good tune with other babbles and bolt-ons...I'd say a 3.4". GTP's come with a HD Transmission anyways...if your looking to upgrade transmissions...go to Triple Edge Performance. Best transmissions ever for the 3800 platform IMO. Horsepower...300-320 on the 3.4" to the crank I'd say...

id go smaller with pullies with a cam, but thats just me. if you wanted to push the car daily no matter the conditions then a 3.4 wouldnt be a bad choice.

i mean i'd take it easy on it, i got about a 40 mile commute daily mostly highway, but i still wanna be able to s**t and get

oh and i definately want a fmic

where ya gonna get one of those? they dont make them for a roots blower car.

maybe youre thinking of a front mount HEAT EXCHANGER. that you can have with an intercooler that we can use.

RR = roller rockers, better than the stamped stock ones.

our water-to-air intercoolers usually run about $1000 for the whole setup, a little more or a less depending upon options.

ok thanks that its out of my budget haha. my buddy has built his sunfire (haha), anyways he basically made hybrid lifters, he used his casing i guess and used ls1 plungers, he claims it gives more lift. any truth to this? and if so can it be done with our cars?

Hybrid what?

That's Ecotec crap...tell him your on a totally different level...and no...lifters don't REALLY matter until you build something stupid.

haha kinda what i figured...must make him feel better knowing hes got some american muscle in his car i suppose. my na gp thats knockin like crazy walked all over him the other day on the interstate lol
