• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

What would you pay?

2004 GTP with 140K miles. One owner. Looks to be pretty clean and has all maintenance records. It is an hour away and I am thinking about taking a look at it. The person said $4500, but I declined. She then sent an email saying she is willing to come down on the price to get rid of it. I just dont know how much lower she will go. I was thinking about trying to snag it for $3800 or so if all checks out.

id call a few shops in the cars area, and pay for a full inspection, for 50 to 100 bucks for the shop to put the car on a lift and walk you around and show you whats wrong with the car can go a long way when i comes to talking them down.

thats what i did, they wanted 1,600 for it i paid 800. my first offer was 500 tho. my car is a 98. its older and had lots of issues.

I guess anything around $4000 is a good deal then. The only thing I dont like about the car is that it is that burnt orange color.

my brother went out of his way to find that color and have it painted on his 85 gmc truck, its like burnt orange, looks sick. he had to go the gm dealer and get the paint code he liked it so much.

this is it dirty from flood running.

lol kbb. Try edmunds. It'll probably be around 3. Use the second option for condition, because something like 10% or less fall into outstanding.

$3800-4k sounds like a fair price as long as there's nothing majorly wrong with the car.

$3,500 - $4,100 is spot on depending on OVERALL condition.

I just looked up mine on kbb. Trade in value is about 4,400 private party is about 6,400 - this is in excellent condition.

I would get it checked out first, just to be sure. Also a spirited drive will tell you alot, never buy without a good test drive.

As far as price goes, start low and work up to a happy medium. Push 3500 "to sale faster", odds are she will laugh and say no more like 4200 then you say ok 3800 and wind up with a 4000 mid point. See what I did there?

Now go get it checked.

NO used car over a couple years old is in "Excellent Condition" unless it was tucked away in a climate controlled garage and only driven on the sunniest of Sundays.

Also KBB is there for the retail dealer. not for you, the consumer.

actual trade in is based on blackbook. you'd be lucky to get ~$3,500 out of a dealer.

Im thinking about taking $3500 cash and take it or leave it if everything checks out good. I am not familiar with the area and dont know any good mechanics, but I pretty much know what to look for and trust myself more than a random mechanic.

if you know what your looking for, then you dont need to trust the mechanic, you just need his lift.

let him do his thing, watch him, feel stuff out for yourself while its in the air, if he wont let you in the shop under the car, find another shop that will.

your going to see and be able to test stuff much better up on a lift.

it all comes down to piece of mind for me, and knowing what im getting into, fully.

if you've set your price in your head, do you really want to put another 1000 or more down the road because you didn't see a bad issue right off the bat when buying it.

but thats me.

Nixon - i do see your point there with my car being 8yrs old now. But it is in pretty damn good condition. Clean inside out. I just have to detail the engine bay again. It's been a while since the last time i did that.

Sometimes it's what you can't see in plain sight that dictates condition rating.
