Hi,

I bought my car with about 104,000 miles and am currently at a little over 122,000 miles. I've had the car about 9 months or so. I haven't done anything with the car besides oil changes and new tires. I am going to be going on a 12+ hour drive to a wedding this weekend and want to make sure my car is all ready for it before we go. What are some things I should check/change before the long drive? I don't want any problems when we go, I don't think i'll have any, the car has been running strong (knock on wood) but I figured it wouldn't hurt and the car probably does need some sort of tuneup with all the miles i've put on it. Thanks!

Check your air filter, tranny fluid, brake fluid, coolant level and brake pads, and the air pressure in all of the tires

Ok thanks, anything else? How do I go about checking the brake pads without taking the tires off? Or will I need to take them off? I have actually been hearing some squeeking when turning the past few days.

Have you got any service records hen you bought the car? A bottle of fuel injector cleaner wouldn't hurt with a fill up.....is the squeeking when you apply the brakes or as your driving? You can look thru the wheels at the pads and see if the pad is worn down, but taking the wheel off is the best way.

if the car has not had the manti. recorded and you know whats done/ not done, plugs, plug wires and a fuel filter along with what I previously stated is a good starting point (good catch Mee)

Check your belts, especially you're accessory belt! You S/C belt doesn't matter as much, if it breaks you car will still run fine you'll just be without an S/C.

Check your hoses too! Upper and Lower Rad hoses and the 2 heater hoses.

Check your coolant level
Oil level
Tranny level,
brake level
power steering level

Also on long trips I like to throw in some injector cleaner in the tank before I leave, what the hell right? I use Chevron Techtron myself...

No service records were given to me when I got the car. It squeeks when I turn to the right usually I notice it when turning corners. Any ideas?

id double check all the things we have mentioned above....... your squeeking.. could be rotors that need to be turned or replaced, or possibly a cv joint.

Well I found out just a bit ago that my tie rods are almost both broken off when I was getting my tires rotated so that what was causing the noise. There goes $200+ that I was not wanting to spend today :(.

$200??? You paid them to install those? Could of saved some $$$ doing them yourself, not to mention getting lifetime warranty ones too. Ouch...
