What to Do? Old Gas - Car Sat for 18 Months

My poor GTP has been in the garage (maintained at 60* and above) for the past 18 months. It's got a full tank of $2.30 premium 93 fuel. :th_jester:

I'm assuming the gas is stale and I want to siphon it it all out and add some fresh gas before I start the car up to get it over to Triple Edge for some work.

The question I have is, can I siphon out a couple gallons at a time and transfer it over to the wife's Aztek? :o I don't really want to figure out how to dispose of 17 gallons of old gas.

TIA

if it were me...i wouldnt worry about it...and if you were scared it may be bad...Why would you put it in your wifes car? lol...just wondering...I'm sure someone will dissagree with me

ooooo....ok i got ya....That would probably be a better soulition....take aout half out of your tank and then fill it up with new gas....and the same with your wifes car....

or

I could just buy all of the gas from you for pennies on the dollar....shoot i'd run that in my car lol

Don't know if it will help you or not, but my GTP sat for a little over two years. I put some Lucus fuel treatment and fuel injector cleaner in it and haven't had any problems. I try and run that through her about every four months. Been driving it over a year now. At first, I might have lost a little power, can't remember was awhile ago. I guess if it was baad enough I would. But, taken it down to a half tank adding new gas wouldn't be a bad idea either. Me personally, I would still run the cleaner through to be on the safe side of not getting a clogged injector.

heh...You know sice im lazy and all i would just use the fuel treatment.

That's what I did. I didn't take any gas out. After my girl sat for that long, I drove the heck out of it and that tank of gas didn't last long anyway. Even if dude drove it down to a half, then it could be filled up and deffinately should be good to go. Really wouldn't pass up on the treatment though.

Just curious, did you guys put your cars up on jack stands or just let it sit as-is for that long? If it sat on the ground, how are your tires?

(I'm going to have to store mine for 4 months sometime in the next year and am trying to figure out if I'm going to put it up in the air or not.)

Hey TDC. Wish you could have made it to the Pinks AllOut show. I got there at 8 that morning, left at 10 that night and it still wasn't over. I believe it is going to be on Speed the 20th of August. I'll find out for deffinate and let you know. Sorry to get off the subject everyone.

I wouldn't worry about the gas. If it starts and runs, its fine. If it doens't start, then maybe take the old gas out. But my guess is that it is fine, and it will run fine.

As for the car sitting, if you have the space to do it, putting it on jack stands taking the weight off of the suspension is a good idea. But sitting for 4 months isn't that long. I wouldn't worry about that either. But that is just me. :)

Unfortunatly for me, I didn't have time to put it on stands. Would have liked to. The Military gave me a week to get stuff together and go overseas. But as for my tires, I've been running them for over a year now and no problems. They don't seem to have the stickiness on take off that they used to, but other than that no dry rotting or anything. Which to me is suprising because she sat outside in the elements the whole time and being low pros. Yeh, but for four months, I really don't see where you should have any issues. But mine where still practically brand new when she was sat down. What's your tires like?

were you the one with the tire dry-rotting issue?

Yeah. Should be fine I guess. On a side note, I know how the military is. They're why I'm leaving for four months next year (Guam).
