...some kind of coolant/iron oxide funk? That's incredible, how long has it been since your last oil change?

a small amount of that is normal, that is too much. youre leaking coolant into the motor.

Check the oil on the dipstick... is it milky at all?

PS: if the engine is cold or hasnt beens started, crank it over a lil bit and then check it, want to make for certain its not milky. That will be bad for bearings, you don't want yours to sound like mine did when my crank bearings spun... GPs shouldn't sound like Diesels :th_nervous:

So if it isn't on the dipstick...it might not be that bad...but if your losing coolant...it needs to be addressed. Buy...

-High Temp RTV, Black.
-GM Aluminum Lower Intake Gaskets for your L36
-New Coolant Elbows...you can buy them in the HELP Section at ORielly's
-Probably wouldn't hurt to do the Fuel Injector O-Rings too...they are cheap...and the PCV...its cheap too. It's under the MAP sensor on the left side of the Upper Intake Manifold.
-A Couple Bottles of 100% Antifreeze...cheap green or yellow junk...then fill the rest with water after you flush it.
-New T-Stat, I'd say get a 180* now, but everyone else will call me dumb.
-Of course...after you refill everything and get it all buttoned up...be sure to change the oil and oil filter.

if im going to pull abunch of stuff apart would now be the time to do an upgrade on rockers and springs and what do you suggest?

if youve got the money for it sure. stick with the split ratio rockers and you can keep your stock springs.

Rockers would be uber easy to do while you have everything apart. But I second the intake gaskets leaking. That's not normal to see on your oil cap.
