What oil filter should I use





Some Fram filters aren't complete junk and are actually pretty good. But i use Wix and get them at Orileys.

The Fram "Xtended Guard" Series of filter are the better ones too get if you want to stick with fram or i think other popular choices are purolator classics which i think you get at Walmart but i never buy them so i don't know.

Y'all just can't stand that Fram makes the best filter, while making junk at the same time.

If you're the kind of person who thinks the heaviest filter is the best, buy the one I just suggested.

If you're the kind of person who likes numbers about filtration, buy the one I just suggested.

If you're the kind of person who thinks an oil filter should have metal end caps, and that's all that matters, buy the one I just suggested.

If you're the kind of person who likes the Champion Labs premium filter, but don't like paying so much for it, buy the one I just suggested.

If you're the kind of person who still starts threads like this in this day and age, good luck to you. This thread is going nowhere fast. Soon it'll devolve into this oil is better than that oil, Illuminati, drone attacks, wire taps, chips in your brain, brainwashing, and so on.
 
My requirements are metal end caps, and a silicone anti-drainback valve. Of course a good filter element comes with those options. You can see if a filter has metal end caps by looking inside the center hole, and the anti-drainback valve can be seen through the small holes around the center hole. If it's black it's plain rubber which isnt as flexible and prone to hardening from heat and just time.

Wix of any filter is good quality, oreillys is the only store near me that sells them.
Purolator classic filters (white can) are pretty decent filters, still have a rubber anti-drainback and an economy style filter element. Purolator classic is the same filter a lot of $25 oil change places use.
Purolator pureone (yellow can) is their top model filter which has a silicone anti-drainback valve and better filter element.

Purolator Pureone is my preferred filter, but cannot be used for extended oil changes. The filter element is too dense for that. They rate pureone at a 99% efficiency over their classic at 97%. They have started selling a synthetic oil filter this year that I'm sure is on par with the pureone as far as quality goes, and is safe to use for very extended oil change intervals. It's capable of holding contaminants and not plugging or falling apart over longer use.

So wix or pureone for normal oil change intervals, and for extended with synthetic oil I'd use purolators synthetic filter. Frams are economy filters, it's just about quality that's all. They do sell a toughgaurd filter that is probably their best filter, along with their racing filters. Ac Delco is on par with fram's quality as far as I know.

I just don't trust fram, they market there cheaper crap as high quality and have nothing to back it up. I cant argue about the fram ultra though, they are on par with some of the better ones. I still stick with wix or ac delco. But honestly if you change your filter with every 3000 mile oil change your going to be fine with most anything unless its just complete garbage. I go 5-6000 miles on full synthetic so i tend to go with a better quality filter.
