What is wrong with my supercharger?

My 98 GTP supercharger is rattling at stop lights and searching indicates bad coupler.

However the supercharger is also causing my engine to loose power - where sometimes I can barely make it up a hill. I thought it was my transmission not downshifting and was planning for a rebuild but the previous couple of days I took the SC belt off and it drives perfect only lacking a little bit of power due to no SC.

The SC pulley seem to spin nicely - are my SC rotors bad? The SC makes a loud rattling unnatural sound every time I turn the engine off as if things are clunking into each other. Are there other SC parts that can cause power loss? I am not sure why the engine RPM stays under 2000 sometimes when I hit the gas even if I floor it and the boost indicator is coming on.

Am I ok to drive with the belt off for a long while?

Thanks.

yes, you can drive with the belt off.

that definately sounds like a bad coupler. id just rebuild the whole thing though personally.

Yea deffinatley look in too rebuilding it. One of my pullies just started acting up havent looked into which one been a little preoccupied...

Well, it sounds to me like you might have a couple problems. The rattling both when the engine is running and after it shuts off sounds like a coupler or bearings that need to be changed. Like previously suggested it might be worth either rebuilding or getting a rebuilt S/C.

On the second thing where you say you can't go up past 2000 rpm, if fixing the S/C doesn't fix that problem, I would suggest that you might be having a fuel problem (weak fuel pump). I had the same problem as you did (turned out to be a FP for me). You can check this out by getting a fuel pressure tester. Fuel system pressure should be between 48-55 PSI. Good luck and let us know how it goes :th_thumbsup-wink:

The blower isn't hard to take apart or put together. Taking it apart will tell you what components need to be replaced, which will determine how expensive it is.
