What is this piece and why did my antifreeze just bust oit

So I just got the transmission replaced in my prix. The guy who did it had to take the radiator out to put in a new tranny line. So today I put some antifreeze in the car. I put it straight into the reservoir. So I'm driving and my car said a/c shutoff to protect engine. So I pull over and unscrew the cap and the antifreeze bubbles everywhere. The car was cool because it's the morning. So then after that happens i see something next to the engine and stuff that looks like it needs to be plugged up. I'll attach a pic, oh and btw the needle was in the red on the temp gauge

what kind of hack has to take the rad out to change a line?

at any rate, it sounds like its not full off coolant, you dont fill it via the tank, you open the rad cap and fill it. then you need to bleed it of air via the t stat housing bleeder.

or you can take the t stat out and fill the engine through the hole in the lim the t stat lives in.

Yeah. I filled the reservoir when I left the house and left autozone. That's when my car said a/c turned off to protect engine. That's when I was pulled over and lifted the hood and not knowing, unscrewed my rad cap. Buster everywhere. After about 10 min I put it back on. Drove again and I saw the needle going back to red. So i pulled over and now I'm sitting here. Well I did some research and it says unscrew the cap and let the car run to release air. I guess that's what you were saying. But I did it too late

Like Scotty said fill the radiator and not the tank. That will get you closer. You also should crack the bleed screw on top it the thermostat housing. You have air in there somewhere.

I understand what y'all are saying. But I'm saying , the reservoir still had a good amount of coolant in it. And the car is still overheating at this point. Are y'all saying add more coolant ? Like I don't know what to do from this point on.

What happens when you run the car with the radiator cap off? Does the level drop in the radiator. Don't worry about the overflow tank at this point.

Level should drop somewhere in the process then fill the radiator directly. To keep full
