• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

What is this? Anyone?

So there's a loud creaking noise coming from the car whenever I...shift into reverse, shift into drive, or begin accelerating, and occasionally when I have to stop abruptly. Also is all this rocking normal? The video shows the sound and the rocking, I got one from under the car, forgot to get one of the engine but you get the idea. The sound sounds like it coming from the dogbones.

lol dude, you needed new motor mounts months ago. Still didn't get them done yet?!? :th_laugh-lol2:

Might want to check to see if you put them on the right way...because if not...the nuts will only tighten down maybe a thread or two

Nice video, my guess is the power is moving to the next weak point - which is prolly the stock cradle mounts, that is the primary suspect on mine now that ive replaced the motor mounts (today) - ive never taken the cradle off so ill i really dont know that much about it, nor have i attempted any maintenance to the links at all but its what ties the motor trans suspension and everything to the car, so far as i can tell all the bushings for it on mine are rubber, also for the 04+ cars there are some sections of this that are different for w/ sport suspension vs standard when browsing through the gm parts direct site for an 04-08 grand prix

Under front suspension - suspension mounting - upper insulator front or rear

I dunno if there is enough play in the cradle on your video to explain the rocking, i could see it moving some but not that much, is it possible the radiator support is flexing since you're putting it in gear and giving it no other option?

Edit: also if the sub frame is playing it will do it more actually driving rather than being on a lift with the brake held, since you are currently containing the pressure internally to the car, the torque from the trans is applied to the wheels then to the strut tower and back to the cradle. Compared to being on the ground in drive where it will try to move the entire assembly in the direction you are accelerating, while bringing the rest of the car along for the ride.

Bump. I've had like 5 people look at this with me and nobody can figure it out. Help? Should I replace the motor mounts again and see what happens?? ALSO, the engine seems very out of alignment, when we disconnected the front mounts to do sparks the other day when we went to put em back on we noticed the engine was offset to the left, and not just a little but either. It was a ***** to get the mounts back on like that but we did it (eventually).

what makes me wonder is why is your motor ideling so high. it shouldnt drop that much when you put it in gear. what rpm's you runnin in park/neutral.
