You can literally clamp the Filter right on the Throttle Body if you want. Or for a slightly nicer look, do like GrandPrixGt2000 said.

You can get the 4" tube and coupler at any auto parts store that sell Spectre brand, that is what I used

Hence the name open cone; you bolt it to the throttle body with no other pipe. Like this:

There is a duct clamp on the end of the cone filter that you tighten onto the throttle body
There is no couplers or adapters needed

I have mine running external just sitting near the filter
Hasn't seemed to cause any problems other than it looking a little goofy
