what Down pipe to get for my N/A 3.8

99prixgt

club of used to own a gp
Ok so i now have the wizard intake and SLP GTX exaust. I wanna a new DP that i can bolt on with a high flow cat but i cant figure out which one to get, i was looking around and the Wbodystore has a DP, ZZp has DP's, and 3800performance has DP's as well, any ideas? or are they mostly the same?

For the most, they're the same thing. I mean a downpipe is a downpipe. The differences will be in diameter and craftsmanship. I have a ZZP DP and have no complaints whatsoever, so I would tell you to go with them.

thanx for the input, that brings me to my next question, if i ordered the ZZP 3" DP Bolt on with cat..do u know if it would still bolt up to my exaust, or would i need a 3" flange on my exaust?

Um... go have 3" exhaust put on instead? Not really much point to put that downpipe on if it immediately has to go back into tiny pipe.

2.5'' would be best for the N/A unless you have future plans 3'' is a waste, if money is an issue preformance peddler sells a downpipe high-flow cat, etc. for $142. I was going to buy it but its going to be a pain to do by myself

Hogan Performance has good ones as well. Make sure you get a stainless DP so it does not rust out on you in a couple of years. Also not all DPs are the same. Some come with a cheaper flex that will tick on you. If you dont mind the tick, go with the cheaper, but in my opinion its better to spend the 10 or 20 bucks more and go with the interlocking flex.

All of these are bolt ons.....

Hogan has Stainless Steel downpipes with high flow cat and interlocking flex for about 220.00.

The no cat with interlocking flex and stainless is about 180.00

The cheapest one he has for a N/A is a aluminized 2.5 inch no cat and its 100.00

With the NA car, the 3.0 may be overkill. I know with GTP's people complain about losing the bottom end, which is fine in my book, because you can't use the torque if you just spin.

You may be ok with the 2.5 downpipe. IMO Hogan makes the best in the biz.

Can someone tell me the advantages/disadvantages between bolt on or weld on, I wont be installing the downpipe (dont want to go through all the work involved) and was wondering if I should just get one that can be welded on by the installer to ease any worries of the thing coming loose one day.

Yes/No?

I know, late to the party, but as other people said, unless you're going big with your mods, go for a 2.5" DP. If you want aluminized, you have a lot of choices, but the only stainless 2.5" DP I've seen is ZZP's.

Avengr, bolt on replaces the entire downpipe, cat, and ubend, so you can just bolt it into the car. Weld on only replaces the downpipe, so you weld it to your stock cat and need to get the ubend removed separately if you want to.

i did my SSM90 kit for $1200 bucks. but i also bought a short stack intercooler kit so subtract $550 from that. i didnt want the turbo because my car worth $5000 is not going to be worth anything after dumping 10 grand for a turbo and trans

But you found really low prices on some parts by waiting around for used items to pop up. Don't forget that part.

To do it with new parts it's going to run you a little over $1k.

I would only worry about how much your car would be worth if i knew i was going to be selling it down the road. And if i did know i was going to be selling it down the road i wouldnt be doing anything to it in the first place.Shoot i bought my car for 5000 too and i have well over 5000 that i put into it myself for mods ect. But i also don't plan on selling it.

my car isn't even paid off yet and its got plenty of stuff on it!!! :D im just saying i wouldn't dump 10grand into a turbo setup, only to sell say if my priorities shifted down the road

i paid 2,500 for my GP..im planning on a GTP motor swap and built trans, prolly a whipple down the road
