What do you do for a living/going to school for

I've been in the Lucent/Avaya telecom world for 11 years (12 this June) all with the same company. High school grad. w/ some college but never finished. Used to work for Touring Cyclist and then assit. managed a smaller local bicycle shop beforehand. Still ride BMX to this day.

Worked my way up from buffing handsets in the warehouse for $7.75/hr. to what I do now- installing/maintaining/troubleshooting Avaya systems with a little bit of data thrown in. Mostly field/self taught. Also do most of the onsite tickets. Make a decent salary I guess. Would be considered a Level II/III tech at this point. Work just payed 15K to retrain us techs on IP Office, and once I get my cert. for that I should (hopefully) get a raise. I mean I only did 599 tickets last year, lol...

I am also the resident mechainc for the company, lol... I make quite a bit of side money from the people I work with and they always come to me with questions. I'm always told I'm in the wrong line of work.

I am a Journeyman Electrician for L.U.# 5 out of Pittsburgh, Pa. I do work anywhere from power plants, steel mills, commercial buildings to houses. I make a decent per hour rate but also could be laid off for several months at a time. uess it gous with the territory.

I am a medical records technician for a county hospital in northern california. pays about 18 an hour although ive been working 12 hour shifts 6 days a week for about 9 months so my checks r feeling super lovely right now. dont know when it will end tho......f***ing tired

I'm a handyman/mechanic for hire. I usually have a steady job but the last year has been tough... I'll post some pics of my remodels when I get a chance.

Like Nick said I'm finishing up my degree in Economics in May. I work at a local bank hoping to move up within it when I get my degree.

Possibly going back to school for my masters and PhD. in economics so I can work at the Fed here in KC. Maybe I will come up with a solution to this mess that we are all in. haha

Working as a Full Time Emergency Medical Technician - Basic for a private ambulance company and going to start Paramedic School this coming fall :D Trying to become a Firefighter/Paramedic and finishing up my associates in Fire Science :)

I build and install temperature instruments for the chemical plants and oil refineries. My hourly rate is...eh, but the job has it's perks. For example, I'm currently in Bangkok on standby.... Anybody want to guess what an American contractor does in Bangkok with his days off? :th_thumbsup-wink:

In the past year I've been to Mexico, Canada, The Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium. Plus countless cities in the states. Not bad considering I have no degree :th_biggrin2:

i am currently going to Universal Technical Institute (UTI) for the automotive and the Ford F.A.C.T. elective (for the electronics, its supposed to be electronic heavy and lots of places like to see that besides ford dealers). hope to get into a dealer of some sort as a lube tech and of course work my way up to one day be a master tech

im working at a SAAB dealer as a porter, detailer, janitor, groundskeeper, help out in the shop whenever they need me, etc. you name it ive done it to some extent there except for in the office. i am/was a silver certified sales consultant (that was the highest, no gold). written people up for service, sold and shipped parts, worked in sales, never sold a car lol. its a small mom-n-pop kind of dealer. only about 10 people work there. 8 on a regular week to week basis, the owner is there everyday, he is the parts/service manager along with being the general manager of course, only 2 salesmen both working in parts and service also, and then 3 techs in the shop. its small but i like it, something different everyday. since im the only porter right now, theres always pletny of work and never enoug time to do it all. im just hoping that a good applicant comes along, i need another person to help me do everything haha then im head porter/detailer and such and at that point im gonna try for a raise

sorry the tanget

How do you like UTI? I turned down full tution to wyotech, but my buddy didn't ( we both got scholorships through the Ford/AAA contest) and he didn't like it at all. He actually got back and went to the local tech school and said he liked that alot more.

i go to uti also but im not taking the ford fact, im taking the nissan classes, but to school it's self is ok the infomation and the schools rep is the best part..it would be 100x better if they didnt focus on running it like a business and focused on the infomation and the sudents

u know thats kinda what my old lady's dad said, he used to teach auto-body at a two year college. He said that some people didn't like graduates from those schools because they didn't have much experience, they just got the stuff shoved down their throat once and never had much practice. But there was probably some bias there.

ya i had a buddy go the the PA location of wyo and hes transfereing to UTI. he didnt like the peolpe or the instructors, he said that they didnt seem to care. i like uti tho, sure theres some assholes there who think they know everything, many characteristics of highschool but as long as you dont dwell on the small stuff i think its really good overall

what location are you going to? i see your from greensboro so the PA campus of UTI? by me (illinois/ Glendale Heights) the instructors seem to care and dont always try to run it like a bussiness. im not saying that everyone there is like that, ya there are some people that try to run it like a bussiness there. the rep by us isnt so hot, the last campus pres messed everything upand everything is changeing in a good way but local area rep is still terrible. a buddy of mine applied at a local dealer there and got an interview after school, basically had the job, so he went afgter school wearing his UTI uniform and when he walked in, it was like they couldnt push him out the door fast enough. they were like sorry we arent hiring anyone from UTI right now..its sad but out by me 45 min south that rep isnt existant, they see oooohhh UTI kinda like wyo, and hire

ya around campus (Glendale Heights aka Chicago campus) any dealer seems to refuse UTI students. kinda sad to hear but its true....
all it takes is one idiot to mess something up :(

Im an ASE certified school bus tech for the largest school district fleet in MN...

that reminds me... i need to sign up for my ASE's

sorry for the tangents

iroc2- Im at the NTI campus in mooresville,NC but im not going for the nascar part, just becausse its close to home,
the people of morresville hate the school because its alittle town and the school brings in like 3000 extra people,
i like the school dont get me wrong but before i started my rep taked it up so bad and its not half of what he said and it seems like all my friends got told the same thing, and how they say they only want the best of the best or whatever they say and how they only take the right sudents, thats all aload of crap, i can walk down the hall and point out half of the sudents who shouldnt be there,
and i know that it sounds like i saying only the bad parts but it realy is a decent school once you look pass all the crap
