• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

What did you do to your Car today?

yeah, i seen the forecast, chance every afternoon for T storms, hasn't happened yet in the last 2 days so i took a chance, its been unwashed for 3 weeks now. so you know how that goes.

i helped a friend clean out his shed. mostly his brothers crap, hes taking it down so we had to sort it all so they can come get it. but any way, there was armor all wheel cleaner, maybe 10 years old brand new, so i used it, made the wheels clean up real nice. ( and the calipers) then there was no touch tire shine, used that too.

im due for another round with the buff soon, it still beads water like mad, ( clean or dirty) but its not smooth feeling anymore.

maybe some clay bar action is in order. and some of that turtle wax black box stuff.

Finished the Hayden trans cooler installation as a standalone cooler.

The mounting pins aren't lined up perfectly, thats because you insert them from the radiator side first, so you have almost no idea where they'll end up until it's already there. But it doesnt matter, all that needs to happen is they need to secure it firmly, and they do just that.

You can't really see the cooler unless you look real close

What size Hayden did you go with again? The 1404?

Also, you just cut the factory lines and clamped onto them?

Thanks for the pics

I used the 403, the 404 would not fit well without modification to the support bar. But that's okay because the 403 is more than enough for a GT.

I cut the metal part of the stock lines, put "half-a-flare" on them so the line could not slip off, and then clamped them. It's half because a full flare wouldn't fit in the hose.

I used a line cutter to insure a clean cut. Took them back 6 inches from the rubber on the stock lines. Pushed them on a few inches and clamped them. No leaks at all.

Oh, pretty much the same as what I did, except I included the stock hose portion because that would require less aftermarket hose length. The hayden directions called for flaring the ends of the tubing for added safety. I remember a story on some site claiming that trans coolers are a pointless mod. Their only valid con was this one guy who's line came off when driving, and even then he must not have tightened the clamps enough. I think this is a great mod to have in any climate that goes above 75°F for at least a month, which is many places. Temps go from ~220°F to ~180°F

You should search this very forum. When I was doing research on install tips I found several posts saying they were a waste. It's almost mind boggling that something thinks that a transmission saving mod is pointless.

Pointless maybe.. But I like the idea of my coolant not raising my trans temps and vs versa. Besides with a brand new radiator I also liked that trans fluid wouldn't have to be hooked into the radiator for a possible leak or failure.

And yeah I got an extra 3ft of hose so I had plenty of routing length. I didn't worry about flaring the ends on the transmission lines. I could always add a second clamp for extra security but at the moment I have no leaks/seepage.

you should flare the lines, trans lines can slide off, they are under some good pressure, when they do blow off your car can catch fire, and then say bye bye to it.

a friend of mine back in HS, his rad lines twisted when he changed his rad, so he used rubber hose to connect the lines to new lines off the rad, he didn't flair either side and yup, the line blew off, hit the exhaust manifold, 15 minutes later the fire dept was there hosing it down. of course they filled the gas tank with water, then filled the engine with water, over kill, yeah just a bit, but it went to the junk yard after that.

oh, and the hoses were double clamped. didnt help one bit.

its awesome that you guys are having this conversation, because i was just trolling through GPF trying to find the answers to all my questions that you all just answered, considering i'm ordering a Hayden trans cooler tonight..

thanks guys!
