What did you do to your car today? Vol 2.0

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

Blasting the fan will suck a ton of heat out of the heatercore at idle, needs higher revs to get/keep the coolant warmer.

3800's are pretty cold blooded too.

Yeah I had to turn the fan down just for it to get up to that first notch past the red notch. It was sitting 2 notches under the first red notch for 30 minutes until I realized I wasn't getting any warmer...

Careful what you complain about...

I'm almost cold enough to welcome that right now. Lol my toes want that kind of heat right now.

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

An old New England trick I've seen is to partially block off the radiator with cardboard. Semi trucks do this too with like a vinyl tonneau thing, adjustable, even, snaps running up the middle.....

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

Most people with trucks up here have Fia covers, they're the quilted rip-stop nylon ones than snap onto the front of the grille.

Our GP grilles are a tad too small to make much of a difference, and I would have just turned off the fan if I had the laptop out there... oh well. lol

Small grilles, ya. But you can still attach some thing right to the rad. I'm thinking not cardboard but something more weather resistant, like a campaign sign. Must be PLENTY of those laying around. lol

i need to replace a tranny line i f ed up. tc bolts, starter, fill it and thats it. everythign else is hooked up already.

now to find a new line, lol

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

when i drained the old tranny, i had cardboard down but i spilled some and made a small stain ( 6 inch round), it leaked through the layers of cardboard, cause i didnt see i leaked. once the tranny is dry theres not much left to leak, i did lay down a load of cardboard as you can see so i was not on the cold ground and could slide around better.

i forgot one other thing left to make tight, both lower mounts merely have the nuts on. all 4 need to be tightened up yet.

very short check list for tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

...oh and changed oil, filter, and one tensioner pulley which is just as loud as the one I took out.

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

trannys in, runs great, my in gear stopped vibrations are also gone, so not solid mounts, but a crapping out tranny.

once i cut off the twisted cooler line, i blew out the cooler, the fluid was all grit, so i flushed a 1/2 quart through it. lots of clear tubing involved lol.

once again, i floored the counter nerd at autozone, held my hand out with a hand full of busted parts, i need a new line, you got em in the back there, hes like ok lets go, 2 minutes later im walking out with a perfect tube that even had the right line nut on it and a compression fitting for all of 8 bucks.

need an alignment now too.

What year Maxima is this? Also any tricking stuff with the wiring? or Straight forward?

I think 2008 ish? I grabbed it off ebay for $35.

The wiring was beyond easy after some debugging. The mirror came with three wires. The negative was easy to find but the other two had me stumped. The mirror wants a constant 12v for home link and ign on for auto dim. I just hooked them both up to the cars Ign on and left the green wire unused.
