What did you do to your car today? Vol 2.0

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Catback isn't going to improve efficiency.

EDIT: Just for reference I got over 28 mpg with the same mix on a stock catback and I had 3 other people in the car and the trunk was loaded down with 4 days worth of clothes for all 4 of us as well as sleeping bags and pillows.

My stock cat back had holes in the resonator and mufflers which is why I replaced it. It sure did improve the efficiency.
I was down to 18/19 mpg before replacing it.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

You do know that it's a 70/30 split on most of these older cars right??

It's why the front disks are vented and the rears aren't, and the calipers in the front are far larger. Seeing a 100-150+ degree temp swing is pretty normal.
Oh that makes more sense. But what does it mean if they have a pulsation in them. Could it be a warped rotor?

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

A pulse in the front like in the sterring wheel or pedal is very the tall tail sign of a warped rotor. Depending on how bad it is you can still machine the rotor down a little, but the pulse could come back at some point. If it's a pretty good pulsation, then just replace them.

The holes in the catback are not why you were down on fuel efficiency, and the new catback is not why your efficiency is where it is at now.

If the holes were in your downpipe I could agree that they could affect fuel mileage because it could mess up the narrowbands AFR's. The fact that there are no sensors after the downpipe means that all you are going to do is be a little louder with holes in the exhaust.

My damn na car can't get that.

The sad part is there were SEVERAL trips to town for beer before I filled up and calculated the mileage. On just the trip I probably was closer to 30mpg. I also had to follow my uncle and he has no idea of the concept of maintaining speed. If I had been on my own that would have improved the efficiency even more.

I'll sell you mine if you want that better fuel mileage. :p

I get 26mpg cruise control set at 82 in the 04 with ported lim hv3 plog and reptile tune

These are the stock ones so it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace them

Stuck this in and went for a spin HOLY CRAP it needed that! I am duly impressed. Laughed SO hard when I mashed the gas that it wasn't funny lol. I gotta be careful around the 3800 virus.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

had to bend the Y pipe some to make the d/s muffler tips look more even, it was kicked to the side to much. used a pipe wrench on the pipe, with a 5 foot pipe and heaved on it a few times. and its much better now.

i need to weld one more hanger bracket to the car, the first hanger the way its set up the rubber hanger hits the car frame and you can feel and hear it vibrate, so thats the next order of business.

I hear that. Mine gained a little noise out the tail pipes but the cabin is nice and quiet. Wonder if the 2.5" catted ZZP downpipe will sound the same as now.

Dad got the caviler running $30 alt and it's back on the road. Now he has temp sensor woes. He replaced the temp sensor because PO said fans didn't work. New sensor now just pegs the gauge hot rofl. I told him those house brand sensors are doodoo. Least fans kick on with A/c and when unplugged fans come on. Told him warranty it till it works or they give you your money back
