All the ones I've hit just freak and dart into the road. At least everything else runs opposite from the lights. So far 3 raccoon hits and the bumper is fine.

I've hit/ran over more wildlife than I can probably count.

As for what I did, I got a new plate for the car. Also bought an "unbreakable" license plate cover and security screws so there won't be any more worries about getting the sticker cut off, or even the whole plate being taken.

Just some good grease. It should slight easily on its own. Might need to pull it apart and give it a good cleaning.

It doesn't seem to come apart. At the end of its travel it slams stopped. I can't seem to find a way to separate it. It's pretty stiff
