What did you do to your car today? Vol 2.0

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Well, I was able to get the rubbing compound part done. Car looks great..... from 5 feet away. There are still a lot of imperfections that will just not come out. This past winter must have been brutal, as has apparently been some parting lot scratches that went unnoticed until now.

I need to decide my next move.

Initially I planned on going to polishing compound with the next step, then onto prewax cleaner, then to wax. With how things are looking now I am considering skipping those steps and just using the Meguiar's Black Paste Wax I had given to me and call it done. The Black Wax is supposed to "polish and wax" in one step. Not sure how much I trust that claim though.

I could also go to the Black Wax, and then finish it off with the Mother's Synthetic Wax that I have.

I don't even know. All I do know is my back is killing me and I wont be doing anything more to it til tomorrow,

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Anyone used the Duplicolor paint pens that Advance carries? The black says its universal, buy also has the GM black paint code on it.

I'm tempted to go buy it and try it, but for $15 if it doesn't do what I want it to do I am going to be very unhappy.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

John Rucker, same guy who told me the Aeromotive Stealth 340 is a rebadged Walbro 255...

Anyways, have you tweaked your AE tables? I'm honestly just learning this stuff, but I thought that's exactly what they are for?

Your guess is as good as mine actually... My tuning experience is limited to watching other people play around it. I do know, from having the car dyno tuned, that I was at 90+% duty cycle even at that point last year... In either case I'm going for corn so an injector upgrade is necessary?

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Did a pan drop, filter, fluid change and shift kit in the Silhouette. It was needed. Fluid was kinda dark and both magnets were coated with sludge. Shifts are a little firmer, but it's still an Oldsmobile...

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Even Oldsmovans need their magnets wiped now and then. The 69 has a washable brass mesh filter lol. Now theres a use for brake cleaner and safety glasses!

Eric, the rendering I saw says dark dark grey (prolly a pearl over black) with custom red bird. If I had a tank to drive, I'd point the turret backwards and fire myself there in a hurry like in GTA games.

Scotty you can't have it but you get these skunkworks pics! Hey my boss has a yellow engine too just thought of that. I'll have to clearance the 'bird hood some more for tire...

Bronc the stance IS about right ain't it? That engine is right against the hood, its no Firebird underneath. Waist-high and looks every bit like 200 MPH to me! We're a ways from that, ha ha.

Strangely, I do like the wheels even though they are satin black. They look cool and showcase whats behind them nicely. The street rod-esque matching of wheel opening to wheel is no mistake. The tires don't look like rubber bands and the car should have a sinister and purposeful look about it. Everything Firebird you like but exaggerated cartoony-like.

Bill I'd pet that dog, it looks like it don't bite.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

does that bird have the 220 speedo in it? my 70 formula 400 did. and i got it to 150, had it had lots of pedal left. no doubt in my mind it would have hit 200 mph if you had the balls to hold it that long lol

every time i see them pics i have flash backs of doing 300 foot sideways burn outs.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

It was a plaino 350 car so it probably had the low end gauges. No telling what will go in there.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

i had a 74 girls firebird too, it had a 301 in it, yuck.......dont recall the speedo in that one.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Some of them things had like salt flats only final drive ratios. I have a posi unit from a 10-bolt 76 GP... counted teeth... 2.41! Dayum, who gonna pull that? No wonder the Q-Jets sounded like they were gonna bend the trees in lol

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

mine had a YS code block, ( 350 hp factory rating) th400 and a posi 370 rear. i like them gears, best of both worlds, still moves off the line, yet it dont scream its ass off on the highway.

nothing like the sound of a quardabog early in the morning lol (with a flipped air filter lid)

My vids suck but this lid flipper has to be worth another go then, in the AM:

I aim to please ha ha- Same 350 with 2.73s lid right side up but with snout snipped off the housing and matching hole added other side.

Shift kit, Dexron VI. Pleasantly surprised how the fluid looked like after 92k miles. Thanks grandpa! (found no records of trans fluid change in maintenance receipts I was given)

Looks good, I have the uppers that came with my hood, but I don't think they'd look that good on a white car. On a darker car though... :th_biggrin2:
