What did you do to your car today? Vol 2.0

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

i can get -30 but its no better then -20. now real meth and distilled water with none of the other bs in washer fluid really works well, i gained 3 more degrees timing from it. still need to play with the tune some, its much richer now vs the washer fluid.

The stuff I use is -40C and has no other bs in it, the MSDS sheet reads 50% Meth, 49% Distilled water and 1% blue dye.

So today I installed some autolite 104s gapped at .50. recently went down to a 3.5 mps and was seeing a bit of KR with the 606s. After that I moved my areoforce gauge under the ash tray to see if it helps with any with the screen getting dim with the heat. It was mounted on the dash with a HUD pod.

Seriously I'm in Arizona and I cant even see my gauge if I leave my car parked in the sun for more then an hour. I thought my gauge was defective or something. I lined the pillar pod with dynamat though and that actually helped a lot.

No joke, I'm in New Mexico and that's even with me cracking my windows and putting the sun shade up lol.

Mine was the opposite, I'd get nothing when it was -10 outside or even similar temps. It would take several minutes before I could read the gauges as the cabin warmed up.

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

Not today but yesterday, did my trans go shift kit. Shifts feel better. Every one in a while I would get a hard lagging 1-2 shift at part throttle and so far so good.

I broke it...ish.

I stopped halfway through fixing it though, because of something else that really bugged me. My horn stopped working. Again.

Well... There's yer problem. by Ben Stryker, on Flickr

There ain't no fixing that one, and I probably won't make it to the JY for a few weekends. Gives me a little time to think about which horn I should look for though...

Should I get another GP horn, or should I look for something off the wall to shove in there and make weird noises with?

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

I replaced the last unknown wheel bearing on the GTP last weekend. Need front pads immediately, or F body brakes. Think I may have another half used set of pads laying around somewhere. Battery croaked on the GT also. Anyway at work I have the 59 Pontiac body perched on the new chassis. Much hacking required. Finished up the trunk lid for it (had skin and shell apart) and am patching up window beds now. Found out its not getting an LS engine but a new Butler built all aluminum EFI Pontiac engine.

Installed the net on the back of the new passenger seat. It took some time, but I managed to get it done. LOL

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

Dug up the chrome polish to polish all the chrome on the car but all I found was the posts on the headrest...I gotta get a life!

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

Put some arrow head splash guards on. Makes it look like an old man car a bit but hoping car washes and paint last longer. A couple weeks ago added vent shades too. Swapped out my alternator and still getting a squeak when cold.

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

Finally found my "rear valve cover" leak.... Someone replaced a brake line and routed it above and touching exhaust manifold. There was a pinhole leak that shot brake fluid up onto valve cover and dripped onto headers.... THIS is what I found that really made me mad....

That's right... compression fittings on brake line.... in TWO places!!! I'm lucky I still HAD brakes at this point! :th_laugh-lol3:

BONUS: this was also my "mystery noise" rumble at 1000rpm!

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

Alignment and wheel balance after new AcDelco Ready struts install. New Impala calipers/rotors are a definite improvement in braking.

1st time i've changed the oil in this car myself. Super easy to get to the filter

Car rides almost as smooth as new with 94,000 miles on it.

Going to Safelite this week to replace the cracked windshield. Only other issue is the seeping oil pan

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

Only other issue is the seeping oil pan

try removing the bolts on the sides of the pan, one by one, clean its threads, brush some thread sealant on the bolt and put it back in, making it good and snug, do not over tighten then or they can snap, very thin bolts.

this has worked for another member. if you see a drip of oil on all the pan bolts it should for sure work.
