What can I do with a 3.1l....

So unfortunately when I bought the car two years ago I didn't care for what was under the hood.

Now I do. hahaha

So what is there that I can do with a 02 se 3.1l? I know there are posts on here for performance mods but all I could find was things to do to a 3800... I would like to improve what I can and have a nice sound to it.

borla definately has some fantastic sounding mufflers, and as said an intake.. let it breathe a little easier
 


i used to have a 3.1 too, theres not much you can do to these engines besides get really good mpg lol. you could do an intake and exhaust. idk about pcm, you're car is a diff year then mine but i know a pcm in mine wouldn't have done anything lol. other than that id say trade it in too.
 
other than what the other say about the exhaust, you will not see much a a HP gain. The 3.1L is a 2.8 at heart. They changed the pistons and heads and have gotten the engine from 125hp to 175hp. The engine has been pulled as tight as it can, without putting some big bucks in the internals. Then you can boost it. If your headgaskets will hold.
 


lol dickheads. She's not spending 2-3grand on it. She's just looking for simple mods like intake and muffler. There seems to be nothing wrong with the car now so why would she trade it?

I agree, just put exhaust and intake on and you will be happy for a bit.
 
but that intake and exhaust isnt going to give any noticeable gains, it will just sound different so why waste the money?
 


Don't waste your money, swap in a 3.8. They have the same harness as the L36, just routed different and would require a tune. Been itching to do a 3.1 to L67 swap for some time now, i'm actually heading up to Washington in a few months... Just food for thought haha
 
I think ill just keep with the visual mods for now, this ones gonna have to last me a few more years so i figure ill save up during that time and buy something newer then. Got other expenses to cover haha

Thats what i said, i got a 02 gp Se with the 3.1 in it and theres nothing out there for it,(has far as bolt-ons), everything on the performance side has to be internal motor work, like heads, cam, and bottom end.. and untill the moneys right it'll be hard to do, so im with you, im just focusing on visual and interior stuff untill i can afford to do any major work to it
