what cam to get

I have a 2002 grandprix gtp supercharged. So far i have a zzp pcm, K&R cai, slp headers and slp exhaust catback with a slp high flow cat. I want to put in a cam but i need to know all that i will need because i am buying everything and paying someone to do the work. What cam to get + what needs to be replaced with it or upgraded? and whatever else i should have done at the same time its being taken apart so i can get it back on the road. I know afterwards i will have to get the pcm reprogrammed for the cam etc. I am just looking for a list of what i need to get everything done and helps with more power. I have another used transmission I will be getting put in too i have questions about that but i will ask those after:) Thanks

All depends how mild or wild you want it I have a s1x cam and love my car very dd friendly and has a lot more punch then stock and is stock head friendly
so is the xp cam

if you go more wild on the cam youll want head work

custom grind...and #150 springs, with stage 4 heads and a double roller with a L26 bottom end and a intercooler with huge injectors and E85.

11's? yes.

did you guys seriously just give all those suggestions to a guy who doesnt really know what he wants out of the car? wowzers.

define 'fast'.

what i am looking for is to change the cam only for now..like what is the best cam and what all i needed with the cam...like springs, push rods etc and what i might want to change so i have no problems as a result of having a new cam

Headers...pulley and a tune.

Try those first. Or, read my thread in my signature. That's a start since you don't really know what a cam does for these cars or what is needed to support it.

i already have slp headers, slp catback exhaust with slp high flo cat, K&N cai and a tune from zzp (i want to get a new tune i think the zzp one is causing my tranny problems.)

if i do the cam at the same time i will get the colder thermostat, new plugs, wires and coil, and new smaller pully etc i also have a used tranny to swap but before that i want to do what i can to it without a total rebuild just to make it last a little longer and maybe add a shift kit...thats a whole other thread tho.

I think right now i was just looking for the next step and i thought that might be a new cam and whatever else i might need to make sure i dont do any damage to the engine

yes thats why i started this thread...to find out the best cam to get and what all i need to upgrade as well...like the valve springs push rods etc.....thats what i am asking for specifics.

most cams are gonna require atleast 90 to 105 valve springs.

get a new stock timing chain and dampner. you can use the stock pushrods.

i would say s1x, pretty good mid level cam.

Go with the intense s1x, or zzp's xp cam. You will need the following....

New timing chain and dampener
front cover gasket
cam bolt (these are torque to yield)
crank bolt (these are torque to yield)
rocker bolts (these are torque to yield)
valve cover gaskets
lower intake gaskets
s/c gasket and o-rings
fuel injector o-rings
depending on th shape of you lifters you may want to replace them if you're motor has high miles, if this is the case then just get some ls7 lifters.
Crow 105 valve springs with ls1 retainers
viton valve oil seals
you should be set with that. Obvious fluids and arp assembly lube are additional.

With those mods you could easily pulley down to a 3.4 or even a 3.25 with a good tune and be in the low 13's or knocking on 12's door with an intercooler later on
