What are the best winter tires for the grand prix

Wow that's a hell of a fine. I've never had a need to get snow tires in KS. Although the past few years a set of snow tires would have been nice.

It really comes down to weather or not you are good at driving a car.

Snow tires are just extra money people spend because they cant drive in snow.

i second this. i work in the tire industry and the company i work for doesnt sell blizzaks, but they are one of, if not the BEST snow tire on the market in my opinion and many other tire techs will tell you that. the traction that they provide wether you are good at driving a car or not is phenominal. and the tredlife on them is actually pretty good given the fact that they are a snowtire.
 
I have ran blizzaks and will say they are awesome in the Snow and Ice. One downfall is the soft compound rubber that once above freezing temperatures they will wear allot faster. The second is cost they are real expensive compared to most other brands. I am running Firestone Winterforce this year due to there harder compound as well as the reviews. That and the fact I am have a buy 3 get one free deal from my tire shop.
I would go talk to your local tire shop and tell him what you want out of the tires and if you are going to run them thru fall and spring or not. Are you planning on swapping in the summer if not them find a real good all season.
I will be swapping tires and rims in the late spring myself.

I run winterforce on all my cars. I never get stuck(well once because of going too fast on black ice). They are definatly the best tire for the $
 
Yea i will be using it through out fall and summer but i need a good snow tire but here in illinois we do get a fair amount of black ice and its deadly going down i-88 at 55mph so a good tire that will be able to use year round will be nice lol looks like I'm going have to get a all season tire and hope i survive....
 
I put new Uniroyal Tiger Paws on my car last winter and had no issues in rural Indiana winter. Now granted I didn't try plowing thru 4' drifts, but I didn't experience any getting stuck or sliding issues.
And after 10 months and 11k miles, they are wearing great and I have been very impressed with them.

I gotta admit, if nothing else I personally think these tires look pretty BA.....just hope they perform as good as they look.



P.S. A good set of snow tires work wonders though. I've driven a truck with and without them and the difference is amazing (granted the non-snow tires were pretty much shot though lol)

what model uniroyal tiger paws?
 
i work at town fair tire as a tire tech, but id have to say the mastercraft mc-440's are pretty beast in the snow. thats what i rock all year round. best tires ive ever had on a car so far.

They are the Tiger Paw Touring.
I'm just running stock t-star rims with 225/60R16
Very happy with them.
Have had them rotated regularly and they are wearing great and very quiet!
I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think they are like a 60k+ tire? Not sure on that tho.
I went to a couple tire places for prices and was recommenced these by every single place.

the tiger paw tourings are 80k mile tires. i usually suggest those to people not only cause its easy on the pocket but because of the mileage you can get outa them
 
As for a snow tire that I have personally used and liked, I ran a set of Mastercraft glacier grip II tires on my cobalt for the one winter I drove it through, and I absolutely loved them, they're a great snow tire, and were comparatively cheap too.
 
I have a friend that had some mastercraft glacier grips on his car and they were awesome for going through snow. My second choice would be blizzaks and my third choice would be continental extreme winter contacts.
 
I've used the Mastercraft snows myself. Very good value IMO.

I had an '87 Mustang that was totally undriveable with just the slightest amount of snow or ice on the road. Snow tires tamed it pretty well. Uniroyals I think. It wasn't just about getting it moving, it did all sorts of squirrelly things just driving a straight line at a constant speed, never mind having to take evasive maneuvers. I'm curious to see how my GTP handles this winter. It has new BF Goodrich T/As on it. I'll be getting snow tires if I'm not comfortable with it. I've done this with pretty much all my vehicles.
