• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

What a joke...

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how everyone on this forum is talking about how 'cool' or 'fast' the Grand Prix their mommy and daddy bought them? I came here looking for knowledge on a car I bought, not knowing what I was getting into, and everything I read sounds like its coming out a 16 year olds mouth. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here that know their stuff, but I have posted on 3 or 4 threads with 6 previous posts that are BS! I am a member of several forums, but people posting about their Xbox 360 crapping out on them in the middle of a Madden game?? Can't say I've ever come accross that.

Sorry if I offended anyone, but this IS the 'Rant Forum' and I just expect better from an automotive forum...

I understand that. I used the Xbox thing as an example (sorry to who ever posted that). I just feel like the 'Rant Forum' should be about cars and the forums. There's a 'General Discussion' for that kind of stuff. I don't see an off topic but when I click to see what people are ranting about I should expect things regarding the GP and its inter-workings. Not how some kids hell-bound Xbox died...

Maybe its because I'm used to the diesel community but that is really off-topic as far as I'm concerned.

The duramax owns, thats all i know :)

Btw, sorry about the 3100, swap a series 2 s/c and be done with it....:th_thumbsup-wink:

Lol, the Duramax doesn't even sound CLOSE to a diesel! They cost too much too begin with and modding them is the same. I love trucks, but as far as power goes? Cummins, no doubt. Reliability/Longevity? Cummins/Powerstroke. Overall horsepower? (which means near nothing in the diesel world) Duramax :th_tongue2:

Me too... Not too impressed. I plan I putting a 3400 in it when the 3100 decides to take a crap. Whats a Series 2 S/C?

Hey Andy..

I hear ya....kinda. I looked up your posts and found you have very few and they are all brand spakin new.

It's ok man.. instead of not really ranting about the non-car stuff you should be ranting about the lovel 3100. Although being a Ford Diesel Tech you probably think there's tons or room for plug changing etc under the hood. Afterall, when you don't have to pull the body off to work on it, that's a good day right? I happen to love the Duramax because it's not a loud obnoxious sounding diesel...but then I want my race car to be quiet.

Skip the 3400, it's no better than the 3100 .. An S2 3800 SC is the Series II 3.8L supercharged motor. Heck, even a naturally aspriated 3.8L would be a more enjoyable motor to deal with than the ticking monster they gave you.

Series 2 3800 Supercharged Motor also known as the L67 :) I would totally forget about the 3.4L and go straight to the 3.8 as well. You'll be very pleased if you do.

I hear ya on the young kid thing for what it's worth I'm 25 and I bought my car with my own money for $6,100.

That is a little over the top, but I can see where you are coming from. I am not a diesel guy, but would think that it is like a lot of these car forums; there are guys spinning low 15's that think they are "fast" and although that is a bigger deal in a truck as opposed to a car, the fact remains they are slower than most new family sedans. Any forum I have been on where the cars have potential, but in stock trim are not that quick, you will tend to see plenty of kids (and even a few "adults") that think their relative stock car hauls ass. You either get used to it and ignore it, or you get fed up and leave. I have done both, and it just depends on the community as a whole and you attachment to the vehicle that dictates which way you will go.

I have to respectfully disagree... I do not feel it is that bad. However, I think SOME of what you are seeing is in some cases, older Grand Prix's being given to by parents, or bought by younger people such as the older gens Prixs. I just got mine and it is 10 years old, thus the price was not expensive anyone could have really bought it.

As with any car site, there are those that feel their car is the fastest in the world, or this sticker gives me 1,000 more HP and the fact of the matter is get the car dyno'ed and than you can brag. I see the same on Corvette sites or other car sites I belong, or used to.

There are sites, I am a mod on one in fact, that are no BS, cars and issues talked about and that is it. Questions answered by techs, or people like me that know and wrench on their vehicles. The site I mod is called corvettemechanic.com

This is a pretty good site if you ask me and I compared it to another Prix site, before joining. Stick around, it is all good! :D One plus I bring to the site is I have GM service manual information, up until 2005 and can look anything up for people...

I would have to disagree with this as well. I was literally just thinking yesterday about how much of a better forum community this is than some of the others I'm lookin at. If you want bad, take a visit to kcsr.org, now thats a bunch of stupid 20-something year old kids. BTW, I'm 18 and bought my own 06 GP for 12k...

I left S10forum when I had my truck and it is night and day compared to this site.
Nothing sadder than those guys bragging about straight pipes or upgrading the 2.2L.
My uncle has a golf and said he got flamed out on the vdub forum anytime he asked anything.

Just stopped in to another Prix forum and saw this.

Person says his fuel filter is stuck on from rust and age. First response was, heat it up with a torch.

Nice! I can joke around too but come on, the person wants some help on getting it off! :(

If you want to see a site full of rich kids who brag about there Z06 I will be glad to show you that site!!! Thats why I left! I was told that modding a v6 "family" sedan was SOO stupid blah blah...but a GUY had a 99 GTP and he was cool!!!! I will agree that most "kids" and again some adults think the "gtps" are fast. I think they are nice fun cars and can be made to be quick/fast.. But when you can go 10s in 1/4 all day long...anything above that is not quick/fast IMO! I love my grand prix!! And have been thinking about getting rid of my Camaro and giving the prix 100% of my attention!!!

Some people get it handed to them.

I saved up and bought my first car at 18 about a year and a half ago. Turned out to be a 2004 Dodge Intrepid for $5,550. It was good...kinda...major accident in February due to it being a horrible winter car and couldn't stay on a curved hill going 5 mph tops and rolling over the hill...which led me to my GP with the insurance money. So I technically paid for it. I got $4000 from ins. and $1300 from taxes...and BAM. I found my GP for $5,000+tax. And have done all of my changes to it with my own saved up money. So I take pride in saying, it's MY car. I chose it, bought it, in my name. So mommy and daddy can kiss it lol

And this by far is a great community. I've got nothing but great things to show from this site. For any problems, I browse this site and have learned alot over even a month of being here. It's kind of nice having those extra sides to talk about daily sh!t. ex: the xbox forum. I'm fine with it. But to each their own I guess.

I can see your side, but all in all, this is a pretty informative place for GP owners if you ask me, with or without the little extras.

I usually just open up the forum and click on "new posts" then scroll through until i find something interesting. If its author is a dumbass, i don't click on it.

Your going to have your internet ego's everywhere you go, just ignore most of it. Like said above, these cars are getting cheaper and easier to aquire, which means your going to have a few more kids on here who have their first cars. The performance vendors have already switched their focus to other platforms, imo everyone on here is usually too broke to buy new anymore!

But on the other hand, these stupid grocery getter grand prix's can be made stupid fast for a fwd, so watch what you say;)

Wow I don't think I've ever started a thread in ANY forum with this many responses! Based on what I've heard and read in my short life on these forums, I have absolutely NOTHING against the community. I had a few too many drinks last night and got carried away :th_laugh-lol3:

I really have no plans on making my car any faster or spending money on it. I have a direct connection to a scrap yard through work so I can get a motor for a really really decent price when the time comes but that's beside the point.

Oh and toolguy, I have access to AllData, so I hate to one-up you, but I can look up service manuals for any make and model from 84-09 :D

Sorry for making a bad first impression. I'm really not an ass haha!

I looooove AllData. I use that more than I use FMCdealer at work.

By the way, do GTP's with mods run hot enough to require water-meth injection minichopper? Or is it mainly used as a HP gain?

I have access to mitchell on demand and mitchell trans aswell as aldata and si2000 so:th_laugh-pointup:

J/K

forums all seem to have there bs postings and such but its the good stuff in them you have to remember

And im 30 own 5 cars All paid for by me aswell as a ps3 cause the rrod sucks lmao sorry had to
