So my buddy pulled it out of guys drive/yard for free. I still have to go pay guy to file for lost title but its free.
So i will have to get it out of my buddies field, swap on some tires that hold air for now.
BUT the biggest issue is it is supposed to have engine knock.
So after trying to find engine parts specs on rods, pistons, block, etc, now I am looking around for options on rebuilding or repairing the current engine.
So from my search the Series 2 block is the same(if needed), figured on regrinding the crank replace affected rods or all of them, then simply reseal(gasket wise) and not even touch heads at first. Though being machinist i might go ahead and freshen up the heads.
Been debating on how far to go.
My first step is to get it up so I can look under it for rust damage.
So my plan
Inspect and install roll around tires.
Get running and listen to supposed knock.
Plan repairs accordingly. All on free car!!!
Now question is who to deal with on engine parts both new and used.

Just get a used l67 engine and throw it in the if the knock is real. Rebuilding one of these get expensive really fast. A bunch of machine work is required.

Or look for the cheaper l26/l36 and topswap it, rebuilds are not worth the cost involved and usually don't get past that 200 mile mark

I was thinking a out looking for Na series 3 and top swap. Don't get me wrong I am machinist/tech by trade and have access to pretty much full machine shop except crank grinder or dyno. BUT can bore/hone resize rods, line bore block, deck heads/block, do the heads.
I have heard on rods are good enough as this isn't gonna be my only hot rod, I have 66 Caprice 4dr parts roof and soon to be Twin turbo 77Monza. So I just want quick way to make it run if car continue a to check out. I had 98 Regal LS I loved as my DD, and it started out as $350 running car. Then added $275 used trans and few other minor repairs and rolled it from 131k. To just over 205 k before wreck. Just wondered if getting series 3 Na short block, pick $350 in rods and some replacement parts like rings, bearings and top swapping or just source an l26 Na series3 and top swap. I understand that makes higher compression just really would like to move up to SC car and GTP IS free so only takes repair costs.
