Weird Whine When Accelerating

I have a 98 Grand Prix GT. When I accelerate, it does a weird, faint whine, but only while acceleration. When I say faint, I have to have the radio turned down even to hear it. When I take my foot off the petal, it's quiet again. I do not notice this whine while using cruise control either. Maybe that would limit transmission problems. I don't know much about cars lol. Anyone that could tell me what this could possibley be?

power steering pump? alternator? one of the pullies? transmission whine?

a ton of things could be whining.

Does it get louder when you steer? If so, then it's probably the power steering pump. Check the fluid level (reservoir is located under the alternator).

Does it do it when the radio volume's low or on mute, but not when the radio's powered off completely? If so, then it could be ground whine. Check your grounds to make sure they're getting a good connection.

There are a lot of other things that could whine, but these are the only two with which I have experience.

id say check your wheel bearings. just had to replace my driver bearing. made the same sound.
