Weird sound on acceleration?

I thought I possibly had a vac leak, so I bought a can of WD-40 and sprayed the connections according to the diagram on the hood.

The idle never changed and I tried feeling around and making sure everything was pushed into place. I got back in the car and the idle seemed to stabilize, which was surprising to me.

Anyway, I took it for a drive and I noticed that as I accelerate, there is this sound on TOP of the normal engine sound, which I cannot find a better way to describe other than it sounds like a school bus engine... or almost like a diesel engine sound. I don't know... It's like air and metal. And a little loss in power, in my opinion.

I can't explain the sound... it's not a hiss or a squeal or anything easily identifiable. It's like this sound on top of the normal engine sound. I guess I'll try to record it on my blackberry and upload it, but can anyone understand what I mean?

I know exactly the sound shes talking about. If it wasn't for her other thread with the P300 code, Id be stumped.

When I bought my car, it had a P300 code. When you would accelerate, (my car wouldn't go over 20mph) it made a growling type sound in the engine bay, and yes a school bus sound would be an accurate name for the sound. Turns out my cat was plugged.

And since you said you have a little bit loss in power, Id go to a shop (not the dealer) and have them back pressure your exhaust. Id be willing to bet you have a partially clogged cat. Like I said mine was so bad the car wouldnt go faster than 20mph. So get that checked out. And if its not a plugged cat, id be stumped.

Hope this helps.
