Weird Shift Points 2007 GP Base, Bone Stock

Hi all. I'm having an issue with my shift points. My car always wants to be in a very high gear. For example 25-35MPH its trying to be in fourth with the TCC locked up. If I get on the gas slightly at those speeds the RPMs will be around 900-1K. If I get into it a little deeper, say on an off ramp to merge into traffic, the progression seems to be: locked TCC, unlocked TCC fourth, third trying to lock up, second.

Is there anything I can do to help this? Seriously climbing up a hill at 35 in fourth with the TCC locked and waiting for it to figure itself out is brutal. Not to mention that I'm sure this is creating extra heat, and these units seem to make enough of that on their own.

The transmission will never command 4th gear untill atleast 42-45mph, its just how they are programmed.

The car will go into a 3rd lockup at around 30 mph though, which is likely what you are feeling.

I would try cleaning the throttle body and MAF sensors first. The MAF sensor can play a role in how the the transmission shifts and acts.

103k. Its definately tune up time. Needs plugs wires intake cleaned one or two exhaust hangers etc. I've had the car for a month, and it spent most of the time back at the dealer getting stuff fixed. Leaving the lot after buying it I took a left and it did the dreaded rev slam in first gear. I turned around and pulled the owner aside.

They sent out to trans shop and who determined low fluid due to a leak. They fixed leak and pan drop filter change. I picked it up and same weekend puddle in my driveway. Took it back. Bad engine mount, oil pan had scored its lip on it. So they replaced the mount and pan. Funny thing was it wasn't oil that leaked it was tranny fluid. So I picked it up again, whoops another puddl the next AM. Back to the dealer then back to tranny shop. Front trans seal reaced and apparently they noticed the ps pump was leaking so they replaced that too.

Back to the issue. I did a slow accel from stop and counted this afternoon. In D I counted first to second around 15mph, second to third about 25, third lock at 33ish and fourth at 37 with almost immediate tcc lock attmpt about 42mph. Now I held at 40-42 and manually shifted to third to make sure I wasn't crazy theory being if I am in third and shift to third nothing will happen, but it shifted to third back from fourth....unless the shift points in 3 are different and it went back to second.

Now if there is a second gear lockup that I'm not aware of this all goes out the window:)

(Bold) What do you mean it locked in third, and locked again in 4th? It stays locked.

When you put it in 3 I believe the shift points are the same, but when putting it in 3 the tq converter will lock. I'm not sure if the converter clutch initially unlocks when putting it in third or not, but it will lock in 3.

If you wonder if the tq converter is locked at any time; while keeping the throttle position the same, use your other foot and hit the brakes just enough to ativate the brake light switch. This will unlock the tq converter and you should see the RPM's jump about 150-250 RPM's.

I'll check that tomorrow. I guess maybe I am confused. My understanding is that when in D the trans shifts to third with the tcc unlocked then lockup occurs after that, then the trans unlocks the tcc shifts to fourth then at a certain speed the tcc will lock again.

Are you telling me that once the tcc locks in third it stays locked through the fourth gear shift and on up?

To give an example, what I see while keeping the throttle input the same while in D is a shift to third at say 2200 rpm. It will stay at that rpm for the next 5 mph or so then as the tcc locks it drops to 1900 or so. Then same when shift to fourth happens. When in third or fouth I can feel the tcc lock after the shift, its a different feeling in the pedal.

Also I am not normally manually shifting, its just in D.

seems kinda normal if your driving with a light foot.

when it shifts into 4 th, Over drive, its only going to go into 4 th at light throttle. and if you give it anymore then a little bit of gas while in 4 th it pops back into 3 rd.

Thats the puzzling part about this whole thing. It seems to want to be in fourth, say coasting down an off ramp at 35-40, then as I get into it to merge into traffic its got to figure itself out and I've got to get way into it before it will let go of fourth.

Its like Me: 'hey go'....Trans: 'not sure if I wanna' Me: 'seriously that's our spot go' ...Trans: 'ummm'....Me: 'common dammit'....Trans: 'Fine then I'll unlock TCC' ....Me: 'we need second'... Trans: 'but that's like two down' ....Me: 'Now!!'....Trans: 'fine don't get snippy'....

at 35 to 40 mph your in 3 rd gear still, and its gonna take a bit of gas to pop it back to second, up to if not more then 1/2 throttle.

Here are a couple vids. Not as apparent in them as when foot to throttle connection and sound are involved. Also noticed for the first time a third to fourth flair. This trans makes me nervous I am going to be doing a swap in the next year. Luckily I now have the cover of a garage rather than lying in the driveway when I swapped the engine in my old CRX last year.

Do you notice the whine? Since the PS pump is new, could that be the idler pulley?

It all looks normal to me. Yours seems to shift a bit sooner than mine, but I believe my tach is displaying 100 rpms too high. Downshifting from 3rd to 2nd does take a bit of throttle, at least half, 3/4ths is what I usually do.

The whine could be the idler, they do make that noise after time. Mine makes it a little bit. I know it's not the pump because I've revved it to 2,500 rpms where I can hear it, and turning the wheel has no effect on the sound.

Alright so I'm plumbing in an aux cooler for the trans. Anyone know what size wrench needed for the line connected to the radiator? I'm putting in a 403 and I bought the connection kit (hayden 309 I think so I don't have to cut any lines.

Also cleaned the TB today. Man that was nasty.

Hayden is going to be a 402, 403, 404, or 405. Why do you want to use a wrench at the radiator? Did you buy fittings that screw into the fittings or is it just the kit with the hose/hose clamps?

I'm super scared imma strip it with that. Is started to already, the nut seems a bit recessed so its hard to get a complete grab.
