Weird Power Window Issues

Hey guys, got another one for ya. My driver's window has been acting weird. All of a sudden it wouldn't respond to my switch (It is stuck in the up position), then one day it started working. I would test it every day I got into the car and it got progressively more unreliable. Now every time I try it, it doesn't do anything. I do not hear any noises from the motor and it didn't get slower before it gave out, just all of a sudden quit one day. I got into the car the other day and now my passenger front window is doing the same thing. The passenger window will not go up from the driver's side switch, or the passenger's side switch. Like I said I have been testing all 4 windows every day the last few weeks and all three have been working just fine besides the driver's window. Now the passenger front window is gone just as suddenly as the driver's window went. No noises from the window motor or slow response before it gave out. Any ideas about what caused this and how to fix it? Thanks.

Sounds like you need a new master switch assembly (the drivers side switches). IIRC if they start to act up it will affect the use of the other independent switches. When you go to remove the switch panel from the door it would be best if you removed the entire drivers door panel to release it as the top edge of the switch bezel loves to break when you even look at it. Getting it out via removing the door panel seems to be the best way to avoid a broken bezel. Just pop the metal spring clip loose from the bottom and out it comes.

I did some more reading and found other threads suggesting the same thing. My driver's window shattered about a year ago and the SAFELITE repair guy broke my bezel!! He put some black goo he had in his truck and was like "Oh you will never need to get back in there this glue will hold it in." So I'm going to take this fix to buy a new switch and bezel and replace it the right way. Found both for about $20 each on Ebay which is fine with me cuz I don't have the time lately to go the junkyard and look around. Here is a link on how to repair the faulty master switch if someone finds this thread in the future. GM Power Window Switch Copper Contacts Cleaning Guide - 1997 to 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix & W-Body Sedans Maintenance Instructions I'll update the thread once I have installed the new bezel and master switch

Hey guys, So I got my part today and swapped it with the other master switch and I still have the same problem!!!!! Yesterday I was pretty forceful with the old master switch because I knew it was getting replaced, so I pressed the down button of the passenger front door rapidly and forcefully and the window went down just fine. It worked for a few more times up and down and then stopped working again. My forceful rapid clicks of the driver's front door did not produce any results. Any ideas about what it could be now? I was sure it was the master switch and am really bummed replacing it didn't fix the problem. Here is a picture of the part I replaced, just to make sure this is the master switch everyone was talking about.

Final Update with Solution:

So I took the door apart and was able to read voltage getting to the window motor, so it wasn't a problem with the switch. Heard a faint single click from the motor every time I pressed the down button. Replaced the entire motor and regulator assembly today and everything works fine. Thanks for the help guys, just kinda weird that both windows would go bad at the same time with the same symptoms of working great and then instantly stopping and working perfectly sporadically. Hope this helps someone if they have the same problem someday.
