weird noise

ok so this has been happening on and off since i bought the car and i havent been able to find out what it is . ok so here is the story of what is going on .... when i drive the car for a while (15-30min.) when i hit a sharp bump in the road i hear a very loud (almost metalic/almost like the tire coming up and hitting the fender) noise . i think the sound is coming from the rear but sometimes sounds like the front . i am thinking something to do with suspension (i think they are the original struts) or possibly the exhaust hangers are getting hot and letting the exhaust hit something underneath the car . i lifted the car and looked under it and i didnt see anything that look like something hit , also when it was up i tried to shake the spring and strut didnt move at all .
when i had the exhaust work done to the car (u-bend delete & 3"down pipe) it stopped making the noise then when it went in to get the fuel line fixed it started making the noise again . thanks fellas .

does anyone have any other idea for me to look at ? i have 2 different options i could just get a full exhaust and hope that makes it stop or i could get my suspension . which sounds more likely to fix my problem ?

Sounds like it is something in the suspension. But it is so, so very hard to pinpoint a noise over the internet. and even harder when you have no idea if it is even coming from the front or back. It could be a whole host of things, I wouldn't even know where to start. I think that is why you didn't get any responses. No one can even know where to start.

But my initial guess is it is something suspension.

that is what i am thinking too but when i push on my exhaust tips left and right i can make a knocking sound with my exhaust so it has me freaking confused . i was thinking maybe my downpipe is hitting the firewall but it doesnt come from my firewall it is coming mostly towards the rear somewhere .

nevermind i think i know what my problem is .

How do I know if my strut mounts are bad? - A worn strut mount can be identified in one of two ways:

* knocking sound from suspension when going over bumps
* Offcentered retainer on top of mount

When you mention exhaust...I recently had a problem where my exhaust was hitting something twards the back of the car...shoot i cant remember what it was but i know it led from me having a worn and flimsy rear exhaust hanger and when ever my exhaust would move it would make that noise

was the noise coming from more of the drivers side ?

well i couldnt really tell...it sounded like it was the spare tire squeaking at first...then when i wiggled my exhaust it made the noise...it also made it when i moved the suspension on the car (like if i pushed down or rocked the car)...but yeah verry agravating. if i went over a bump it would also happen...just leme know if you want me to find out exactly where it was hitting and i will look for you
