weird intermittent problem: delay on starter engagement?

Developed some weird problem the other day, when I went to start my car, when I turned the car to the start position, nothing happened, then i realized, if i hold it at start, there is now like a 3 second delay before the starter kicks over. Never had anything like this before, anyone ever experience symptoms like this?
 


No idea on exact cause but it's worth it to check over things.

Clean the grounds, the battery contacts, check starter wires for corrosion or damage and stuff like that. Maybe it's even the ignition switch itself, hard to guess at it.
 
either ignition switch or solenoid are the only things i can think of, all my battery cables are brand new all the way up to the starter which is new as of last year. whole car was rebuilt from top to bottom when I did the trans and DOD removal.
