Weird Amp Problem

I just installed my new audio components over the weekend, and upon initial testing everything was fine.

Yesterday I hopped into my car to go somewhere and I found my 4 channel amp in protect mode (and let me just say, music sounds weird with just bass). Voltage was pretty high at 15.1v, so I attributed that as the cause of the problem, however after I had been driving for about 10-15 minutes the amp turned on, and the voltage was still bouncing off 14.9-15.1v.

Then today I hit the remote start and let my car warm up for about 12 minutes, got in, and the amp was once again in protect mode, which then turned on after only a couple more minutes. The voltage today, however, was back down to a normal 14.3-14.5v.

I'm not really sure how to tackle this oddity other than checking my connections with my voltmeter when I get home tonight. Temperature is really the only thing that stands out to me, because that's the only thing that changed between installation and the issue. Perhaps the cold temperatures increase the conductivity in the components enough to cause overvoltage? I'm just spitballing here, because that sounds ludicrous at only 12*F.

TLDR version: the amp stays in protect mode until the car has been running for 10-15 minutes, then turns on and operates normally, even when cranked to maximum volume.
 


that means the amp is not hooked up right or the amp is in an area that forces it to be hot and once your amp gets too hot it will go into protect so you dont fry it
 
I'm not gonna lie, that was not helpful in the slightest lol thanks though.

The amp IS hooked up correctly, and it's not like I don't know what I'm doing. If it was overheating it would shut off after a certain amount of time, not delay the turn on process. It's also quite cold in the trunk, being that it's winter here in Minnesota. The amp is in an open area, albeit mounted sideways, and is hooked up with 4awg for both power and ground to the respective distribution blocks, which are trunked with 0awg. The amp for my sub works just fine, which is hooked up in the same fashion.

Like I said, it's a strange issue.
 
PA D4000.4 -- it's stable down to 2ohms per channel, and the nominal impedance of the speakers (2 sets of MM6501s) is 2.7ohms per channel.
 


do you have another 4chan amp on hand? if so swap out amps see if a different one works. If another amp solves the problem recheck the connections on your other amp and hook it back up. if you still have the same problems i would say your amp is done for.
