Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"

i have been missing the gym all week from all of the snow and a friend having their first child. today will be my first day all week to get in a 'real' workout.

although yesterdays snow had me to shovel it all by hand since it was too heavy/wet to go through with the snow blower. two hours of tossing 30 pound weights around will get you pretty good.

Cleaned in front of the neighbors mailbox the other day. Seriously packed and compacted, I hear that about tossing that crap. It is a good workout.

I'm a bit nuts, I want more working out.

Started to work up to handstands.

Did some research and decided that a gymnastic core workout is probably the bomb for someone as small as me

i am disappointed with my gym session today. my knees are still completely destroyed from my run last week saturday. this is not good for my need for cardio in my diet effort...

Five days. Need to sleep more? Stretch more? Massage more? I did find that 3g/day fish oil helped me with knee pain after a few weeks of use last year. The stuff's cheap enough to experiment with, anyway. I've since stopped running so I don't get knee pain anymore.

Shoveling always nailed me in the lower back, because it's just ugly good mornings. Going for 1-2 mile walks definitely helps with the aches and pains, though... walk through the mall or on a treadmill if the weather interferes.

yep, that's a sore spot right now for sure.

since i made it to the gym today i was on the stationary bike for 15 minutes, the treadmill for 10 (ran 2...torture), then lifted some free weights before i got out of there.

I'm gonna say you don't stretch half as much as you need to. Also, get a pvc poop pipe and roll out your back and legs on it. Medical tape helps keep it from sliding on carpet.
You too can look as thrilled as this guy:

And do runner's stretch - likely, your knees hurt because your hips are way too tight and pulling on your quads, which are pulling on the knee.

i'll typically stretch before i start on the treadmill. stretch my hamsprings, quads, calves, etc. and start out walking for a few minutes before i even start running.

Just before running? You need to stretch after, again later, before bed, when you wake up, later, before next run, etc.

Easily the most fun anyone has ever had at an L.A. Fitness:

After squats and jump squats, I figure I could use a shrug or two. As I start loading plates, 18 year-old bodybuilder (that's prepping for NPC Nationals, I think) asks if I'm doing shrugs and can he work in... sure! Long story longer, "working in" turns into "going toe-to-toe" and we end up railing out 590 for sets of 12. Bodybuilder kid brought teh brutalz.

Proud moment: Lacking straps, I still kept every single one of my callouses intact. Booyah, hands.

Side note: Stop competing with 18 year-old competitive bodybuilders. Tomorrow may very well suck. LAWL

I would like to note that these were rack pulls from the knees with a bench bar... so my deadlift might actually be climbing, since that's my sticking point. I didn't think of it at the time... I was busy playing with the other kids.

Since its story time.

Monday a short pudgy idiot (works at the gym I hate him) was telling this other idiot who id like to slap also that even when he was 140lbs @ 8% he didnt have abs.......ranks right up their with people claiming they used to be at 3%...
