wbody store intercooler?

Wbody store has $200 off there full size intercooler kit today. $650
Is this a decent kit? Im wondering if i should go ahead and buy it.
 


I would stay away from the wbody store intercooler. they do not maintain a functional pcv, unless they changed the design.
 
in my opinion a better quality kit can be pieced together if you are able to do a bit of fabrication work. hit up sseilmnop on here for a phenolic intercooler, buy a pump, use a vw heat exchange, I think the part number is CU98, they are like 50 on ebay or 60 on amazon. you can probably still stay under 1000 for it all.

ive yet to pull apart a zzp core that was sealed completely and didnt have at least two vac leaks to the pcv system/atmosphere.

wbs just requires a clean metered air supply hose...which is easy as hell on a gen5 blower and only slightly less so on a g3

i like the wbs since its the only core that can be significantly mod'd

worst zzp core i resealed has 3 vac/boost to pcv leaks and one pcv to atmosphere leak.

apparently its really ****ing hard to lay a silicone bead on the narrow zzp case walls?
 


wbs g3 modified for a single pass core relocated to provide a post core bypass as well as a diverter tongue.

id trade our extra zzp core for a wbs core anyday



 
go with the phenolic intercooler from the guy that makes them. Sseilmnop i think is his name. He knows his stuff and is great to deal with. I don't personally have one but ive texted him quite a few times and if his customer service means anything from someone that isn't even a customer i would definitely go with a phenolic.
 
I have a phenolic intercooler and can verify Ed's amazing customer service. The intercooler itself also works very well
 
I believe wbs had this exact same deal a few years ago, and I wished I would have bought one. They make a pretty good product.
 


so is a full stack IC worth it on a basically stock engine or is it really for a modded engine? anyone have actual dyno results putting a IC on a bascially stock engine?
 
My new ssei has 1.9 yella Terra rockers, P-log front, ported stock rear exhaust manifold, intercooler and ported heads. I'm running 3.0 pulley, No dyno numbers but the butt dyno feels good. It will squeal the tires at 25mph if I romp on it and break them loose complete if I'm under 15mph.

So will my non-intercooled comp g. Even on newer tires with traction control off I can catch rubber from about 20-25 when I smash it.

Gotta love that comp g gearing!

mikes IC cores and the beltwrap are his stuff only.

the wbs plates fit the blower outline with solid plates, the zzp is a hollow plate design where the pcv passages are large cavities that are evidently hard for zzp's workers to install rtv properly along the narrow sealing walls.

ive dealt with enough tuning headaches with the zzp cores that the first thing i recommend is to teardown the core and reseal it when you first buy it.

its really easy to split the plates apart since they weren't rtv'd right...they may have gotten their act together but the most recent was a core purchased in 2011

ill give zzp a nod for the nice bolt in Heat exchanger but the frozen boost units are easily bolted to a lightly modified bumper support.

I'm sure Mike designed some of his stuff. But I believe WBS is operated out of ZZP now and Mike is just getting a percentage of profit. They are not separate companies.

Buy WBS pulley puller and get ZZp.
Buy modified fuel rails and get ZZP.

ZZP updates there website software, later WBS updates there website software to same setup.
 


oh i wouldnt doubt it both zoomer and mike have moved onto larger profit making ventures than 3800 parts.

the wbs core is better than the zzp in my eyes even with needing an external metered fresh air path. if you go from a g3 to a g5 setup you can machine the core opening over and with carefull rtv end up with a post core bbv.
the wbs beltrap is pretty badass too.... i remember when ron vogel made the prototype. sheesh had to be nearly a decade ago lol
 
I was going to buy it, until i found out im still feeling the pain of having my debit card hacked 2 weeks ago.
 
whats the realistic gain to be expected from one of these with a car lightly modded, just exhaust plugs and cone intake.
