Currently changing the water pump in my 01 GT. what are the correct torque ratings for the water pumps bolts, and the pulley bolts? Or should i just get them snug?
heres a tip if you did not know, break the 4 bolts on the w/p pulley loose before you take the belt off, make then tight after the belt is back on. or you'll have a hard time getting them off. or back on tight.
those 2 bolts are fun, you can see the top hole a bit by looking over the top and looking at the back with the bolt sticking out, then line it up to the threaded hole. once one bolt is in the other is easy.
The way I do a ps pump. Leave the bolts in it, push the lower bolt so the end is flush with the back of the pump. Now put your socket on the top bolt and push it all the way so it protrudes. I use my right hand on the socket and left on the back of the pump. Get the pump in the are where it should go.. you can feel it hit the hole with your right hand, start trying to thread it.. pull toward the pass side with the pump..you'll know quick if you got it started.. if so.. pivot the bottom of the pump toward the radiator and move your socket to the lower bolt, now use your left to pull the bottom of the pump toward the firewall until you feel the bolt drop into the hole.. thread away.
I got her in yesterday after reading ScottyDogs post. I used my left hand to feel the bolt hole and used my right hand to guide it there. Toughest part of changing the pump was getting the lower steering back in! Lol
