Water in Passenger Floorboard [*]

Wow is this a common issue ?? cause mine is doing it too, every time it rains hard when it sits in the driveway i go out and the ps floor is filled with water, so i just vaccum it out.

Very common. I'd say 8 out of every 10 W-bodies that I replace the windshield in has this rubber seal under the cowl at least partially displaced.
 
Just fixed mine, sure enough it was off. I did it without removing the wipers; I just turned the car on so the wipers were straight "up." I shut the car down and maneuvered the cowl (one piece) enough so i could pull off the deflector, put on RTV and reattach the deflector. I tried to take the wipers off but they would barely budge. When I was finished, I just turned the wipers off and let them set in the down position, and whacked them a time or two with a mallet and tightened the bolts down. I don't remember removing the wipers when I had to do the same thing on my Impala, either.
 
I realized WHY I didn't remove the wipers on my Impala. If you put the wipers in the up position and have a two piece cowel, you DO NOT have to remove the wipers. Whoever updates the How-to might want to add this.
 


Is this just a GM issue in general?

This post was for GP's up to 2003, but mine is a 2004 and I am experiencing the same issue. I actually just made an appointment with the dealer to have this looked at, but tomorrow I might try to do that on my own.

THIS THING JUST LOVES TO LEAK THOUGH...

My Onstar Antenna leaks as well... comes down through the overhead console and fills my cup holders.

This happened also to a Grand Am I used to drive, as well as a friends Impala.
 
I can't remember off the top of my head if the '04's have the same seal. I know they have a similar cowl design. The directions here are for up to '03, so you might have to just use it as a guide as some things may not be 100% the same.

The OnStar antenna on the roof is also a very common problem. A friend of mine had the same problem and the dealer just replaced the antenna and it fixed the leak.

Yep, sure enough...

I went out and the 04's do indeed have that same disastrous design... Even better, mine does have cabin filter installed from factory... SOOO I better replace that ASAP because I'm sure it will be full of mold/mildew if it isn't already.

And of course, there it was just sitting there out of place....
 
Anyone ever had to replace the rubber deflector completely? I had the leak, and used some RTV to reconnect the deflector. After a big rain storm, I found another puddle. Is there anywhere else that needs sealing?
 


I just "fixed" mine and am about to go suck out as much water as possible. My cabin filter was disgusting and probably dangerously full of mold.

I heard that GM has a new component for this... what I would like to know is if this is really a "new" component, as in, IMPROVED, or is it just a replacement part that is no different than the one that is prone to all off?

I checked mine out and it seemed to be perfectly fine to stick back on with some glue... but if there really is something better out there I'm certainly going to use it.

Anyway, now that I have that leak fixed, I just to work on getting my darn Onstar Antenna to stop leaking.

I swear this car was made for swimmers....

mine did it, and I can't recreate it with a hose, I think it was just hard enough to flood over
 
i do autoglass to and it seems to b in the passenger side bottom corner from what ive seen... try and find some good urethane possibly go to ppg and get that stuff they got pull molding back "gently" and put some in that corner...try not to make a mess and if u do clean it off quick
 


just did this on Sunday night b/c i found a damp carpet on the passenger side floor. The rain deflector was coming off on the driver side end.

I used black weather strip silicone i had left over. Also, i sprayed a towel with brake parts cleaner and the old clear stuff rubbed right off so the lip where the deflector goes on was clean as can be.

If you need new plastic rivets or fasteners i got mine from NAPA pn 665-1387 fit pretty snug and look the same. I was not able to compare b/c i cut the old ones out b4 reading this post. The new ones were pushed in on the ends (one piece cowl) and the middle one screwed in.

Just checked the deflector yesterday and that thing is not coming off anytime soon.
 
i checked both of mine and the deflector on the 03 was off so i fixed that but on the 98 it is still on and my floor is getting wet. does anyone have suggestion?
 
There are AC drains somewhere that I have heard other people talk about getting clogged and causing water on the floor also. I have never ran into it before, so I can't tell you for sure where they are to clean them out. Maybe someone else can chome in that has done it. I know Farnsworth has.

On another note. I have something coming up that may be the permanent fix to the rubber seal, yet just as easy to remove if you need to get to the cabin air filter. You will be able to do away with the piece of rubber altogether and NEVER have to worry about it again. I will be test fitting one on my car very soon and will keep you all updated.
 
AC drain is on the firewall passengers side behind or around the power steering pump. It looks like a lil rubber elbow that gets clogged. Take it off and all sorts of water will flow out, or bugs and gunk. Also make the opening on this elbow bigger on the drain side.
