Warm Air Intake

my warm air intake has a 3 inch metal pipe and a generic filter on it.
my only problem is that it whistles around 3k rpm.
I HATE THE WHISTLING
my friend has a 4 cylinder with a WAI and it roars.

How can i make mine roar? do i need a wider pipe or a better filter?
Any ideas guys?

well im not sure what whistling your hearing but my open cone makes the same noise id just imagine thats how 3800s sounds

On my series 3, the only whistling I hear is at start up and it lasts about 30 seconds... I believe it has to do with the idle air control valve.

It starts up and it has this ear piercing whistle to it, then it runs with the whistle for about 30 seconds and it sounds like a vacuum cleaner opens up followed by a click and then a sound like a vacuum cleaner turned off, and the whistle goes away. From there it sounds like a car with a normal intake running, until I get on it and then it roars like a beast, intake was the best thing I ever did for the sound of my car, lol.

And then when I step on the gas hard you can hear it take a deep breath before the motor revs... WHOOOSH VROOOOOOOOM :D

could my little rubber mount for the o2 sensor be making it whistle? lol
mine is silent at start up and idle.... then 3k its whistly

Rubber mount for the o2 sensor? The o2 sensors are in the exhaust pipe, not in the intake.

That's mine

whoops sorry the MAF sensor. sorry i'm exhausted lol

yeah the rubber grommet doesnt EXACTLY fit.. so its kinda shoved in hah

yeah, that could be whistling I guess if it's not sealed.. which if the leak is after the maf it's probably affecting your performance because the maf isnt recording that air for the pcm.

Do you even have an iac valve? Wouldnt the pcm just open the throttle blade?

A whistling noise is indicitive of a small leak in the intake.

There is typically a shovel over gravel noise when using an l36 or l67 tb.

gone threw many intake setups, as well as changed my pcv valve, under qtr\half throttle yes it will whistle, any less/more then half throttle whistling goes away.
get used too it.
