Want to turn off auto door locking feature

I just bought a 2000 GP SE yesterday. When you put the car in drive it locks all the doors and when you turn off the key it unlocks them. I don't like this so I read in the manual how to change it but I'm having some problems.

The car has an aftermarket HU in it so I would guess thats why I'm not hearing any of the chimes it tells me to listen for. I know how it is set up now and I know what I want so I should be able to hit the lock button the right amount of times to toogle through the options and turn off the key and put the fuse back in and it should change but no luck.

In the manual the first row of what chimes/what options is empty. Is it possible my car just doesn't chime and I can't change the door locking option? The next row is two chimes and it has a few options to adjust.

My car seems to be a pretty base car. No keyless entry just power locks.

Thanks!

When I tried changing this, I forgot to remove the MALL PGM fuse from the instrument panel fuse block and turn the key to Accessory. After removing this fuse and turning the key, I was able to toggle thru all the options.

Hope this helps!!

I remembered to take the fuse out. I wonder if some cars don't have the option to change these features just because the top row in the manual that shows what can be changed is blank. I wonder if my car isn't adjustable

I know from programming in my key fobs that you do not have much time at all inbetween moves or it will not work. I don't know how fast you did all that it said to do, but maybe it just needs to be done faster?

I tried a quite a few times both fast and slow thinking one way or the other would work but no luck.

When I look at the matrix on page 2-12 in the 2000 manual I wonder since the top row is blank if the number of chimes you hear is 0 then you can't program any of the options. If thats the case I'd have thought they'd have put a zero in that column rather than leave it blank. I don't hear any chimes when I go into the program mode. I thought maybe thats because the car has an aftermarket radio in and thats goofing it up.

I don't have keyless entry or a key fob, is it easy to add that? Thinking if I find a wrecked GP can I just plug in whatever module it needs from the donor car and have keyless entry?

I don't know...........Mine had keyless entry already in it from the factory, just came with no key fobs. So I bought some and programmed it in. That was easy, but I don't know what would be fully involved if this option did not originally come on the vehicle. You could call your dealer and give them the VIN and they will tell you if it came on it from the factory if you don't already know. Good luck with your other programming issues, I have no clue what your issue would be.

mystery solved. I'm dumb!

I was turning the key forward to run, not back for accessory.
I turned the key the correct way, heard the chimes and it programed just as it should have.

Thanks everyone for your advice!
