97's should still have VATS. Does your key have a little chip in it? If so.. put an ohm meter to each side of the resistor and see what reading it is.
Then do what I did. Solder a resistor of the correct value to the BCM where it needs the signal and unplug the connector to the dash for VATS. Put in alarm system and smile. Cause no one is going to believe you bypassed the theft deterrent when you put in a better theft deterrent.
Well...directions for a Viper are not really out there. You'll need to search for maybe 2-3 wires if you are familiar with alarm systems. Overall though it's pretty easy. I did mine, took half a day.
Okay this is whats gonna happen.
If you bought the remote starter at bestbuy installation is included in the price of the starter.
They're going to tell you that you need the immobilizer, you can tell them that you don't need it but they're probably gonna install it anyway. They do this because if they were to take someones word for it and they ended up needing an immobilizer, it would take the tech guy twice as long to do it because he would have to go back and install the immobilizer.
That's what they guy who installed mine did. He installed it with it. Then disconnected it, and when it worked with out it he removed it.
Just make sure you're not paying for it in the end.
Ok, go hit up the12volt.com and find the section on wiring for doing an alarm/starter. Print that out.
If you have the vehicle schematics, have those handy.
Then take the single sheet from the viper and start mapping things out. Pay attention to +/- that the alarm expects vs the wiring on the schematic.
Holler with what you need a hand on and I'll likely dig out my box (I think I left all my notes in it)
Do you own these tools?:
DVOM
Soldering iron
Typical hand tools
Are you familiar with electronics, and the proper way to test automotive circuits?
