vibration at 55mph and hard steer

My car set for about 2 years while i gave the state some good quality free work via the GDC. When i returned home i assumed there would be some issues with the gtp.

The first thing i noticed after the appropriate oil change, air filter clean, and leak inspection was hard steer. I noticed today going really slow like a creep it felt like my left side was going over bumps about every 5 ft going about 5-8 mph. It was not rough but like a smooth slope then a drop. Now, when i am mobile, like backing into a parking space or slowly go about a round about it is like killer to turn. Well i thought the ps pump was going bad or leaking, i checked the level and i was almost full. I was like what is the deal here, i topped it off and the issue still continued.

Well as i drove it up to speed i noticed a shake at about 55-60 no less, no more really. I thought maybe my rotors where warped or something so I did a 12 inch brake upgrade while i needed new rotors anyways. I was bedding the brakes in yesterday so i didnt really get a chance to check the vibration too well but i think its still there a little.

Anyways sorry so long, while i was doing the upgrade i noticed my cv boot was torn at the lower position next to the wheel. I really know nothing about steering or rack and pinion compared to my other knowledge so im stumped. Any help troubleshooting would be AWESOME:th_thumbsup-wink:

Well, I can tell you this you need a new half shaft. What ever side you have that cut boot is the side you need to replace. CV joints don’t last long once the boot is damaged.

If the vibration persists after you replace the axle, jack the car up on both sides and check for up and down play in the wheel bearings. You can do this by pushing alternately on the top and bottom of the tire and seeing if there's play. Chances are you're ready for a new set of front wheel bearings.

cant i just replace the boot? The weird bobble is on the other side of the car. I put the car in reverse turned the wheel all the way and did some reverse circles going both directions and felt nothing weird or heard no noise.

will check this asap, thanks!

i guess i might as well replace the whole axle if the boot is torn anyways, but can i just pack it with grease and repair the boot ( i found a quick repair quide on-line) until i can replace it. Also, what is causing my steering to be so hard to turn, i am not hearing any noise from the pspump at all, just a bit*h to turn.

halfshafts are 60 bucks at oriellys and they are pretty easy to change out. just did both of mine last weak. trying to figure out my vibration i have between 55 and 75.
