Very good article on Domestic vs Import

It's kinda sad how over the years our biggest american companies branched out to other countries to save labor fees or whatever and now the foreign brands moved in and now our money either goes to support other countries economies, or our money goes to the foriegn company that saw our mistake and moved in to profit. It's sad but true that Toyota and others are more american than ours. But it is hard to let go of the fact for me too that the designers, owners, ceo's and all are still planted where they were 25 yrs ago. It's hard to let go of what's import and what's domestic. In my eyes GM, FORD is domestic-designed here with ceo's living here running it all. But facts are facts. If I were to buy toyota I would do more to benefit our economy here than if I were to buy GM. Sad facts I guess... I like GM.

And why just cars? What about home appliances, electronics, etc? Zenith was the last domestic TV maker, and they closed their last US plant in the late 80s/early 90s. Computers make be assembled here, but the bulk of the parts are made overseas as well.

Oh crap, better be careful there or you'll be labeled un-American.

This is the reality of our global economy. Even if we buy something that is labeled 'Made In the USA' or even 'Assembled in the USA' the fact is that debt is globally financed. So even if you buy something made or assembled in the USA it doesnt mean the money stays there. The Sub-Prime lending and resultant economic meltdown should prove that. The reason it is affecting economies world wide is that that debt was bundled and packaged and sold all over the world.

Your address may say USA but that doesnt mean thats where the money stays or where the parts came from.

And he never posted about why those are facts. I can play that game too.

The world is flat! It's just a cold hard fact! It doesn't matter what you people say these days or what "evidence" bs you have. It looks flat from where I'm sitting. You're ignoring the truth!

im a red blooded, flag flying american, i dont F$%K with that import nonsense!!!

So am I a commie pinko for driving an Impala? Sticker on the front door says it was assembled in Canada. And there are LOT of proud Canadian Impala owners on NAIOA. There's a reason that the NA in that is "North American"

Deezul, you brought up something I had not even thought of really, so hats off to you for your perspective. North America encompasses more than just the United States. Heck for that matter, what about South America, LOL.

And to kinda respond to QwikGT, I will add this; you're telling me that every member of the U.S. Armed forces that is currently or has served, or lets narrow it even a bit more, how about serving in Afghanistan or Iraq, or even more specifically, gave their life fighting there that drove/owned an import vehicle was not a red blooded flag flying American?

I mean, come on, no offense to you personally, but I bet if you were to look around your house/apartment you will find a great number of things you own that are FAR from being made or even assembled in the U.S.A.

That type of ignorant attitude is exactly why this country is in such a sad state. Blind patriotism is never good for anything. People like you have basically allowed the quality of the Big 3 to sink so low, because you let them know that no matter how bad they get, you will preach the "you are obligated as an American to buy them anyway" mantra. Self-improvement and evolution doesn't come without self-criticism and evaluation. Stop kowtowing to everything strictly because it's "American", or because you fear being labeled "unAmerican", and start demanding that these entities EARN your respect and hard earned money.

Another fine point. I have no problem being patriotic, I along with many others have the service record to prove it. But I think you keyed it correct, 'blind' patriotism. Ive kinda always felt there is a certain danger in believing or standing for something whilst not understanding why you do. It has the potential for a lot of issues in my opinion.

So are you guys saying Toyota are american, Hondas are american etc? If so some of your guys are very dumb indeed. There classified as imports. Thats my only point.

GM=Domestic

And who gives a **** about Chyrsler?

You guys are getting a bit carried away with this. I listed the facts, GM = Domestic. Deny it all you want, but its true and that the end of it.
