Valve/Piston Question

Simple question here - I am changing the valves in my GTP, they all got bent. Can I take the valves from a set of N/A heads, and drop them into the supercharger heads - or are they different valves?

Also, when the valves hit the pistons, there was a small chunk taken out of each one. I am thinking I can just grind down the sharp points with a dremel and the pistons should be just fine, they should be thick enough for a small nick not to matter... Does anyone have any input on this? From what I understand the biggest threat is pre-ignition, however I also don't want a hole being burned though the piston over time...
 


I would say that the chips in the pistons will only cause weak spots and trouble in the long run. Just get a used short block somewhere. Not sure about valves.
 
The valves will work.

Depending on how deep your gashes are, you may be able to sand them down. I'm running a motor right now where the pistons contacted the valves. I sanded the sharp edges down and no problems. But if your gashes are too deep, you may have significantly weakened your ringlands.
 
The big question I have to ask is why did the valves and pistons got introduced to each other? Generally and engine is timed so that cant happen, or you relieve the pistons so the valves won't do that. I'd want to find out what cause the problem, then re-build it (overhaul) if after i got it apart and it measured and close to factory spec's. its a lot of work to get an engine out i would put it back together with used and potentially worn out parts. Just my thoughts, fix it right the first time. If you have never taken an engine apart take it to someone who has too. There are things that need to be marked so it goes back together the way it came apart.
 


The timing was thrown off because the camshaft sheared off at the cam sprocket of the timing chain... How that happened is still a mystery to me, months after the occurrence of the event. As far as I can tell there are no damage to the bearings at all, everything spins freely.

I will post pictures tomorrow or Tuesday, but the nicks are pretty small in the pistons - I can't imagine they did any serious damage to the integrity of the piston... I'm going to compression test everything to make sure once the heads are back on, but you'll see what I mean once I post the pictures.
